I like the word "pinnacle". That's a good use of the word pinnacle, we should use that word around here more.

Don't be so reticent to use the word "pinnacle"!!!

    And :geaux:

Yea, that record would be hard to beat, specially taking into consideration theres nothing you can do to score just one point by itself. Although I think Dorsey should have gotten credit for a point a few times this year:hihi:

In a normal season, I think the 2005 team may not have lost a game.

They were loaded on both sides, man..just so much talent.

The '06 team was by far the most talented is you base it on Sunday players.

Basically that entire team is now or will be by April on NFL rosters, except for the oline.

I pretty much agree. Crowton is awesome.

Talent-wise, this isn't even the best team LSU has had since 2000 (I'm still not sure which LSU team since 2000 was the most talented. But I'm certain that last year's LSU team was more talented that this year's LSU team).

But our coaching staff this year is the best I've seen at LSU. If we beat Ohio State convincingly, I'll call this the best LSU team in this generation, but I'll attribute it that mostly to our coaching staff, not our talent (which is still at least Top 10 in the country).

    I don't know about the "team of the decade." USC (02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07) and Miami (00, 01, 02, 03) had some of the greatest teams in college football history this decade. LSU couldn't even compare to some of the teams they had this decade. LSU 01, 03, 05, 06, 07 were great years. Georgia 02, 03, 04, 07 were awesome. Ohio State 02, 03, 05, 06, 07 were awesome. Oklahoma 00, 01, 02, 03, 04 were awesome. Texas 01, 02, 04, and 05 were awesome. West Virginia 05, 06, 07 were awesome.

But I do agree this is the most successful stretch that LSU has ever had, and that we are at the pinnacle of our all-time success as a football program. I mean check it out:

Pinnacle? Not hardly, we just limped into the NC game- I think we'll reach our pinnacle in two years. It's going to be sic how talented our team is on both sides of the ball.

Believe me, if we bring home that second NC in 4 years tonight, we'll be crowned the team of the decade. All year, everyone has said that "Les Miles might be a great coach, but great coaches are defined by their championships."

If that's true for coaches, it's true for teams.

JohnLSU, thanks for the AP rankings list. You gave me some ammo for an argument I would have made just on memories. Only twice in my lifetime (born in '63) have we stayed in the AP top ten for the entire season; this year, and 1987. I think that '87 team is unfairly overlooked when talking about great LSU teams, because they only ended up in the Gator Bowl. But they went 10-1-1, with an offense that was just awesome to watch in action (Hodson throwing to Davis, Magee, Moss and Kinchen, handing off to Harvey Williams and E.Fuller, behind a line anchored by Albergamo and the late, great Eric Andolsek). Most of the defense escapes me, but I think the linebackers were Eric Hill, Toby Caston and Ron Sancho. May have never been considered an NC contender, but there weren't many LSU teams that were more consistently excellent than that one.
