I am going with a resounding "YES".

This team will go down as the best team in the history of LSU!

Undefeated, 9 wins against ranked opponents, 4 wins against opponents ranked in the top 3, and 2 wins against that team of the past.

THIS IS IT! This is the moment I have been dreaming of. Since my first year as a Tiger, 1981, I have hoped for a season last this, but did not dare believe.

    Now I BELIEVE!

I have put my money where my mouth is, as they say. I will be there, I will see history being made, and it will be a MOMENTOUS occasion!

    GEAUX UNDEFEATED!!!!!!!!!!!

    FOREVER LSU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nebraska's 71 team averaged 180 yards passing per game. Not shabby.

Coronating any team too soon with any "best ever" would not be fair to both all the other teams, or to this team. Lets not jinx these guys. One of the reasons that they are up for discussion as the best is because they are young and hungry. Lets do our best to keep them that way. We have one more huge game to face, and then lets let sufficient time pass so that objectivity is clear in the decision. I think there is no doubt even at this point that this team should be up for the discussion, but that discussions time should not yet pass.

Lets just enjoy this, its a great time to be a Tiger fan. Let the teams actions replace superlatives

Yes but they used the run to set up the pass like most option teams at the time. They also had some pretty good talent at wide out. At that time, schools in the south had not entirely integrated. LSU only had two black players on their '71 team (I think). We didn't start recruiting the black athlete heavily until the late 70's. The teams that did had a speed advantage.

    Disagree fully...that's silly.

Whatever we as fans say about the team on a message board has absolutely zero influence on the game to come. Jinx is something children say when two of them say the same thing at the same time. There's no such thing as jinxes. Jinxes exist only in the weak minded.

Agree to disagree I suppose. Any edge is worth having with two really talented teams. These are kids, and they do sometimes buy into hype. I can tell you the staff works hard to insulate the team from an outside perspectives both good and bad, but in this day and age there is only so much that can be done. Perhaps jinx wasnt the perfect word, but again anything for an edge.

You should read some of the things SUPER BOWL winning Sean Peyton did to get an edge for the Saints. You might call those things contrite and trivial, but there are many dynamics at play that arent always so transparent

Jinxes were for Saints fans in the 60's and 70's when the team could not spell "win" when they were given the W and the N.
This "damn strong" football team can't be jinxed and they have all the motivation then need to play a great game. This is for the NC game after all. It's what all of our players came to LSU to fight for and win.

Color me crazy, but if you follow TMAT alone, you would know that the team very much keeps a pulse on what not only other teams say, but fan bases and media. It all does play into their mentality. We just happen to have a team this year that is young and is oozing confidence. Like I said before, with this team, I dont think it matters much. We go in and win convincingly, but as a rule of thumb, I do think these outside things affect play

Again, you missed the point. The team isn't who you were talking about when you said we shouldn't coronate them yet.

    :insane:

WE are who you were talking about. My point was, is, and always will be, that what fans say on a message board has NO EFFECT on the play of the team. There is no such thing as jinxing.

I said on here the other day that Kiel has been committed to LSU for several days, and people didn't want me to jinx anything. Silly. Me saying what I said had ZERO influence on the outcome of Kiel's decision. Likewise, us discussing the 2011 LSU Tigers as one of the best ever college football teams has ZERO influence on the outcome of the BCSNCG, or anything else the team does from here on out.
