The Little Village in Baton Rouge had the best oyster poboy I ever ate but that was 15 years ago. Don't know if the place is still open.
YES... http://www.mothersrestaurant.net/history_facts.html "Mother’s Restaurant opened its doors in 1938 on Poydras Street’s “Restaurant Row”, situated between a thriving waterfront and the courthouse. Owners Simon and Mary (Mother) Landry and his large family cooked up po’ boys for lines of longshoremen and laborers, newspapermen and attorneys." I remember going to Mother's when I was a kid with my grandmother who was a friend of Mary (Mother) Landry. Lot of great memories not just of that restaurant but of New Orleans and some of the great changes I've been fortunate enough to witness.
The Hamburger and BBQ Roast Beef dressed on French at Bears Restaurant in downtown Covington are my all-time favorites. I love the Hamburger Po-Boy at Deano's in Lafayette as well. (Right down the road from the Southwest Louisiana Junior College at Lafayette football stadium) Also had a killer Roast Beef PB at Radosta's in Old Metairie. A Barq's "It's Good" Root Beer with all of them of course.........................
Parkway is great but there is a REPORT FOR A MUST STOP ... See for yourself Get the oyster po-boy at KENNEY'S in Slidell ... $12.99 and it twice what I could eat Have them heat up the French Bread first! Awesome stop if you're driving to Florida and close enough to the 10/12 split if you're coming via 12.
