Man, I get excited envisioning this! Please, sooner rather than later! http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;...rYF?slug=dw-playoff112707&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Only way a playoff would work imo. Make it like any other playoff, higher seeds host. The author of that article has it right.
I had a dog and his name was BINGO! "A byproduct of the BCS has been a devaluing of competitiveness in college football. There is no longer an incentive to play games against other big-time opponents. It's not just intra-regional games that are all but gone but most non-conference games of any significance. Teams just load up on patsies to grab the home gate and maybe play one local rival. Amazingly, the BCS rewards them for this."
I disagree with this entirely. The best way to do a playoff is to take the 4 winners of the BCS bowls and put them in a 2 game playoff. This way, the regular season still means something, bowls are in tact, and NC is crowned on the field. There would still be some controversy over the at large bids, but that would all be forgotten at game time. Does anybody see anything wrong with this scenario?
I assume you mean a 3 game playoff, 2 rounds? So, first a fan travels to a BCS bowl game. Expensive trip. The first playoff game would be following week? where? The championship game would be where?
I wouldn't mind this. It's at least a start. I never understood this. The regular season will always mean something. At least to me. And I'm sure the teams involved. Bowls are still in tact with this proposal.
I have to agree, the public outcry for something better will eventually have to count for something. You would have to believe that the university presidents and AD's could warm up to it if the numbers were presented in the right way.
That's what I've been saying for a while here. Probly have to reduce season to 10 games and get rid of the conf championship games though. The 16 team playoff held by the NCAA is the only solution for me.
