LSU is the 12th winningest D-I program of ALL-TIME. Based on winning percentage, LSU is 15th (through 2006). If LSU isnt the ultimate job for a top notch coach, thats fine with me. Apparently we dont have to be in order to have one of the all time greatest, dominant college football programs.

Charlie Mac was my favorite. I think Arnsparger was overrated. A great X and O guy but did not recruit very well. He was blessed with a s--t load of talent left over from Stovall. Stovall's kids also carried over to Mike Archer. When Stovalls kids graduated Archer was left with the Ansparger recruits and was soon looking for another job. I really believe if we had more patience with Jerry Stoval he would have been a great one. Well this is just my opinion.

I always thought we pulled the plug on Stovall to soon. He had to straighten out a mess after Bo Rein unexpectedly died. He kept his assistants and it took a while to start getting his own assistants and recruits in place. Broadhead came in and pulled the plug after 4 seasons, 2 winning ones and 2 losing.

He could sure recruit, it would have been nice to see if he could have gotten consistent. Plus, he was a LSU guy, all the way.

    We'll never know.

Agreed about Dietzel and Saban for what they did for the program, eve though they both left us before the honeymoon was over.

I would have to put Coach Mac in there - even with his troubles with Bama all those years, he really only had a 2 or 3 bad years in what -17 seasons or so. He took what Dietzel left and kept the program near the top for most of his remaining years at LSU. I still remember those great defensive games like the one we lost 3-0 in South Bend (1969 or so) when the Irish only crossed midfield once and could only come up with a field goal - and that was when the Irish were a real football team.
