My only problem is that I took this thread to be a discussion of which coach is the best at coaching players up, not another shot at Miles thread. This based on the title. My answer would be Brooks/UK, he gets more outta what he has than anybody.
Yes, I was just seeing if anyone was paying attention. Actually just so frustrated with these threads, I messed up. Thanks for pointing it out.
Wow. Why the heck is Les Miles is taking heat on THIS board? As a Gator I know my opinon is biased but I think the two best coaches in the country reside right here in the SEC - Meyer and Miles by a mile. I'm so sick of that over hyped pompus windbag at Tuscaloosa its all I can do to hold my diner down whenever I hear him speak between sessions polishing his opt out clause. Miles isn't a bad recruiter but I think he is scary good as a game day coach. Look, every team is going to have an MSU like game. The Gators will have theirs this year, just wait. It just so happens we lost our MSU game last year againt the other Mississippi team. At least Les won his. C'mon guys give him a break. S-E-C!
HA! The SEC gets 5 of the top 6 recruiting classes in the country! LINK Gators #1 and LSU #6 in the nation! Les Miles steals Justin Hunter, a four star recruit, from VA Beach out from under our Gator snouts and in my very humble opinion is the steal of the year. I'll take great hands in a receiver that runs routes so crisp they snap over showy speedsters any day. They are the ones that get you first downs on those 3rd and longs in critical game situations and are worth their weight in gold. Eat it PAC 10 and Big 12...and oh, did I mention the best part? Notre Dame without a top twenty recruiting class,........again. Keep signing them to lucrative contracts NBC while the rest of the country yawns to weekly beatdowns that would make the Gipper plead to be euthanized as fast as possible. How sweet is that?
And my answer would be Houston Nutt, based on his tenure at Arkansas. The guy did more with less talent than any other coach in the league. Now, as far as cred goes. I'm an old guy, graduated in '71, and live in Dallas. Grew up in Mississippi, Dad ('34 grad) took me and my brother to the '58 and '59 Ole Miss games. Sat on the eastside south 20 both games, remember the fights in the south endzone and a rebel flag burning from the upper deck railing. Remember the fans yelling at the Ole Miss team bus outside TS, particularly at Charlie Flowers. Became a Tiger Fan for life. Watched some of the best and guttiest LSU teams while in college. Ronnie Estay, probably the best tackle ever, was a cadet colonel, with about a dozen other Tiger teammates, together with me, during Vietnam era. Free speech alley began and rocked. Hated Bear Bryant but it seemed like they won by 14 every year. Used to say that if the Tide was playing the VC, I going with Charlie. Yeah, I'm a Tiger. With probably more history than you, Red. I didn't get on the bandwagon in '02 when things started looking up. To be trite, I've probably forgotten more about LSU and all it's sports than many of you ever learned. That gives me some perspective and cred. I don't like the way the program is trending, and that's a fact. I've seen teams with a lot less talent play with a lot more heart. And play better. So far, this team doesn't have it. Neither did last year's. We're supposed to have top 5 talent. And enough of it to reload every year. Why don't you guys tell me what the problem is instead of blindly repeating the company line? Tuckerman
Yeah, I've only got 37 years watching the tigers instead of 39 years, old-timer. Try us, then. It's easy to just say so. Share what you know. Well, you've got only a dozen posts here to judge you by, you see. Respect on the forum has to be earned, not demanded. I'm happy you are working on earning some. If many of us don't agree with your assessment, it doesn't mean there is a "company line". There are a lot of threads right now where people have been trying to dissect the teams issues. I look forward to seeing you on one soon. Try to understand that most of us have been around here talking about the Tigers for years, not days. There are topics that have been beaten to death and topics that are contorversial, . . . and there are sensitive subjects. One of them is rival fans bashing our coach and negatively comparing him to the Great and Powerful Nick Saban of Oz. It pays to lurk awhile and judge the mood of a fan forum before jumping in and bashing our head coach like many a Bammer has done in the past. When you come aboard and immediately lambast the coach in multiple threads, praising what Nick did when he was here, not mentioning any Tigers or discussing any plays or getting aboard any of the positive threads, you get taken for a poser just stirring up trouble. No one gets censored here for unpopular opinions, but we do try to keep a handle on flamers, posers, trolls, etc. that just come to create dissent. We do get them this time of year.
Thanks for reply, Red. ldskule: I'm not bashing, but lashing. We should be better. For the record, we beat UGA 34 - 31.
