I would have to agree! How many times have we been in nail biter games that went down to the wire? How many times have we thought our hopes for a NC were over? How many times have we all sat or stood on the edge of our seats screaming and hollering over close games? How many times have we thought we would be in a coaching bind? This year has been one major roller coaster ride and guess what, its still not over. What a GREAT YEAR to be a LSU Tiger. MAN...WOW! INCREDIBLE!
Well, 1958 still probably reigns as the best ever, undefeated national champs, with a Heisman winner in the backfield (won it the next year). If we win the title this year, I'd put it over the 03 season, because we came in ranked #2, and that is a tough burden to carry all year. The 03 started ranked about 12th. It's been topsy turvy, but we've hung in and now have an opportunity to play for a national championship, after earning an SEC title. Pretty good year!!!
I would certainly say that it was the best college football season ever. It was fun, exciting, and extremely entertaining.
It has been an incredible, gut-wrenching season, and even though I'm completely tickled that the Tigers will be playing for all the marbles, I still can't stand that there's no playoff. Can you imagine what a great tournament you'd have with the top 8? And that would bring Mizzou back into the mix, those guys being left out of the BCS for a Kansas team that they handled is inexcusable. OK, that's the end of complaints, can't wait for LSU - Ohio St.!:crystal:
This is from a great article on MSNBC praising how great our team did this year... "Miles ... finally has a conference title to call his own. Some might say, “Big deal!’’ Wasn’t LSU supposed to win? Well, yes. In the preseason, there was little doubt about that. In fact, an LSU-USC collision looked practically unavoidable. So the fact that LSU actually became the first two-loss team to play for the BCS national championship might make you think the Tigers are underachievers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Consider this: LSU, two weeks after earning the first No. 1 ranking since Billy Cannon’s era, lost a 43-37 triple-overtime heartbreaker at Kentucky on Oct. 13. The Tigers simply couldn’t put away the Wildcats and big-time quarterback Andre’ Woodson. They had chances, but they were all snuffed out. The end? Nope. The beginning. Such a loss might finish some teams. Not LSU. It battled again ... and earned back the No. 1 ranking. Then, ... the Tigers fell again on Nov. 23. Again, incredibly, in triple overtime. Arkansas prevailed 50-48, behind the remarkable work of running back Darren McFadden. And everyone had the same question. How could LSU rebound from this? Then came the Miles-to-Michigan saga. And LSU still fought through it all, beating Tennessee, capturing the SEC title, earning back its place at the head table. That is the definition of a great team. ... If there was a playoff system, I’d pick LSU to play USC, and I’d like the Tigers’ chances." by Joey Johnston, a columnist for the Tampa (Fla.)
