I never understood why some answer a question with an answer posed as a question, as if they are uncertain of your answer which happens to be correct.
There are next to no good burgers in Baton Rouge these days. There is an the bad (Brewbacher's) and the bland(George's). Hell even Raul's Deli is only good when old Raul is in the back, and he is never there anymore.
I think the burger at Brewbachers is good, too. Whats bad about them? They both use fresh meat, and dress them well and any way you like. They use real cheese on the cheeseburger, not pasteurized processed cheese food product. I've never gotten an undercooked or a burned burger. They are both standard Bar-and-Grill burgers with no silly frills or defects to annoy me. Sammy's is another. I prefer such a burger to "gourmet" burgers or fast food crap like 5-Guys. I like the burger at Ivars, too, but you have to insist on well-done to get it medium. They undercook burgers a bit. The burgers I despise are the ones who overload the thing with unusual toppings and dressings or use "Special cajun seasoning" or some such crap like Burgersmith. Raul's is a good burger, but only if you make them hold the Tony's. I can't stand $10 hotel burgers with funny-tasting pickles, salad dressing, red lettuce and a fried onion ring. And I don't give a rat's ass if it's "Angus" or not. Just don't serve me a frozen patty or worse, an over-seasoned patty that tastes like an Italian meatball. Outback makes a fairly good burger if you ain't feeling like a steak.
I agree with everything red said except for the shot he took at burgersmith. Then some good burgers. Fries too.
I don't understand. Everything you sad is solid and true, but as far as burgers go the one at Brewbachers is just bad. George's is bland. I mean shit. Grill some onions and at least make half an effort. And Outback??? For real??? I hear them burgers at Chilli's are good too... If you like a pound of salt per ounce of meat. It's like you understand the principles but can't taste proper execution. Here are the good burgers I've found in Baton Rouge... Sammy's, Mason's, tremonte's, and South of Philly. Burgersmith's is good too, but not as good as the others. Akasha and Sky Hook cafe are pretty good too, but I don't eat there often. I used to like riverside Patty but they mailed it in and are resting on their laurels. The worst I have had was Fat Cow. That mystery meat bullshit is terrible. For a good chain burger Zia's is the way to go.
My favorite was Cake Palace on Essen. They serve breakfast and used to serve plate lunches and burgers off the menu but stopped doing lunch about a year ago. THey told me they were going to start up again but haven't been back to check it out. They had the best chicken fried steak as well.
