I can tell what part of the country I'm in by how they serve french fries. In the south we have battered spicy fries. In New England they put malt vinegar on them. In California they ask you if you want "french fry dip" which is like Russian dressing, in the midwest they want to put gravy on them--lots of brown gravy!

In New Mexico when you order fries they ask you if you want jalapenos on them.

That and even though its been over 20 years since I ate at the Owl the thing I remember about the fries is they were freshly peeled and fried when you ordered them.

Well the best fries I've ever had are the the chimes cheese fries. You get brown gravy and jalapeƱos and you don't even have to leave BR.

I went to LSU in the mid-70's and the Ground Patty made some damn good burgers. Are they still around? Glad to hear Louie's is still there.

The one I went to was on Government I think. I saw some earlier posts about the Frosttop on Government. I loved the ham n cheese poboys there. I remember the Brass Rail also. There was also a Library Lounge on Chimes that had a dynamite Muffaletta. But the Ground Patty certainly did make a burger that was hard to beat.

Frostop -- still there, no change.
    Louie's -- since 1942
    Brass Rail -- gone
    Cotton Club -- gone
Quick 'n' Handy Po-boys/Bluebell Ice Cream -- gone
    The Library -- gone
    Magoo's -- gone

I still miss the burger at The Rail, Joe's Special at The Library, and red beans at Magoos.

In the ten years I lived in BR I never once went to Frost Top. I guess because I had always heard it was over rated and the fact that the location was kind of out of the way.
