+1 on Port of Call. Great burger, great potato and wash it down with a Monsoon. It's a must anytime I'm in town for lunch and feel like a burger. I had Judice Inn twice on different occasions. Very plain and the meat was dry. Not impressed. I can see why it is a local favorite because it has the neighborhood feel to it that invokes the sentimental in people, but the food was not justification for the hype.
Dude! They had the best hamburgers at Round the Corner that I've ever had. I really miss that place. The phones at all the tables were cool. You could call any other table in the place or call in your order from your table. You must be as old as me. I have to agree that Burger Delight in Gonzales is the best burger I've had otherwise. Damn, I miss Louisiana.
Brett mentioned Fatburger earlier in this thread (5 years ago ). I frequent one in Jersey City and it's not bad, especially with onion rings and a chocolate shake. I doubt martin's been there because I suspect he's a health freak. In Lafayette: Judice Inn - Spicy and excellent but on the small side. Southside Bakery: Excellent burger, great bun and it's huge. Corner Bar in Breaux Bridge: I love their hamburger poboy. I think I'll have on today.
Five years ago I said: Now Dearman's is gone and Frostop has slipped. So: 1. Louie's Cafe 2. Roul's 3. Brewbachers 4. George's 5. Ivar's What I can't stand are those hotel $10 room service burgers. To justify their price they always try to make them fancy and just fail to make a good burger. The patty is too big, too lean, and undercooked usually and often breaded or otherwise seasoned with some crap that makes it taste like a meatball. The bread is some Italian roll instead of a proper hamburger bun, and they overdress them with things like purple lettuce, fried onion rings, cherry tomatoes, 1000-island dressing, and bizarre California organic pickles. I just get the club sandwich instead. It's hard to screw up a club sandwich.
I hear that. A couple weeks ago (the night LSU beat Texas in game one) I was at the Marriott in downtown Manhattan. I had traveled all day, had the remnants of a head cold and didn't feel like leaving my room so I ordered a $19.00 room service bacon cheeseburger and 2 diet cokes. The hotel added on a service charge, 3 different taxes and a delivery charge making the total over 40 bucks! And then the guy had the balls to hand me the check and a pen with a blank space for the tip. Ummmm...NO! The burger sucked.
