I saw a BBQ place in China Grove, Texas but I didn't have time to stop. Still have no clue as to why the Doobie Brothers would sing about it. I like the creamy, slightly sweet green cabbage slaw like they used to serve at Picadilly. It's the way I make it myself.
I've eaten at Big Mike's a few times. Best BBQ in Houma for sure, but nothing i dream about. The wife finds it too salty. Living in Houston area now, and Killen's beef ribs in Pearland are memorable for sure.
California is certainly not a hotbed for que, on any level. But there is this place in town, forgot the name, but folks stand in line for 2 hours to load up. Their hours are till they run out. Their web site says "you either stand in line, or you don't". I like that because that's the kind if shit I would say. But I wouldn't know, because I don't have 2 hours to waste in line for lunch. Like, I need to take vacation just to eat some decent ribs? Naw
not a satisfying answer,.. "The words were written last, and they were made up around this whole idea of this wacky little town with a sheriff that had a Samurai Sword and all that sort of thing. The funny thing was that I found out in 1975 in a cab in Houston that there really was a China Grove, although what happened was in 1972 we were touring in Winnebagos, and we were driving into San Antonio. And there is a China Grove, Texas, right outside of San Antonio. I must have seen the sign and forgotten about it. And when I came up with the term 'China Grove,' I thought I was just making it up because of the words being about this crazy sheriff with a Samurai Sword. "when the cab driver told me this in Houston, I said, 'You gotta be kiddin' me.' He said, 'There really is a China Grove.' I said, 'No, there isn't.' He says, 'Yeah, there really is. And it is right outside of San Antonio.' I said, 'That's weird.' And it turns out there's one in North Carolina, too." https://www.songfacts.com/facts/the-doobie-brothers/china-grove
I got to go with this. Cept .... I prefer brisket. I live in Hog Land, ...and all they know around here is pulled pork (bout all a hog is good for .... cause they damn sure can’t play football ... I mean really ... Ol Piss?)
I subscribed to masterclass.com I have really enjoyed Aaron Franklin's masterclass on BBQ. I'll try to remember to post his sauce recipe.
