He's on the ballot, lets hope he makes it in. Its been almost 43 years since he's thrown a pass at LSU, the First Team All-American in 1972. LSU has had 7 former players from the SEC era make it, Cannon, Stovall, Casanova, Charles Alexander, Abe Mickal, Gaynell Tinsley, and Ken Kavanaugh. I can remember Bert's first start, it was against Notre Dame and he started because he was tall and ND had a very large defensive line. LSU won 28-7, but the two highlights for me was a goal line stand by the "Chinese Bandits" early in the game that got the TS crowd going and later in the game Andy Hamilton got a ND DB turned around and was wide open in the end zone for an easy TD pass from Jones. It was one of LSU's all-time great wins.
I really don't think that was Bert's first start just maybe the first game where he they didn't alternate QB's all game. The entire team was awesome that night but especially Bert, Andy and Tommy Casanova. Being in Tiger Stadium that night is still the biggest thrill of my Tiger life.
