I care about practical things that can be taken care of, not some pie in the sky abstract thing that drains resources and accomplishes nothing.

this explains the whole issue. your need to cast yourself as better than other, to think of yourself as the guy who isnt selfish.

you response isnt that "you are wrong", it is effectively "you are less moral of a person than me". when you grow up a little and get beyond that, you can be trusted.

there is no honest answer to the question "why should i care about some person a long time in the future who has no bearing whatsoever on my life"

you dont understand human nature. we are nice to people because they are nice to us. we have empathy because we identify with the problems of others, of actual people we see or we know. these are evolutionary devices, like all of our characteristics. if we cannot be bothered to care about some future person who may or not be at rish, this is simply rational, because it isnt in our interest to be needlessly worried about it. but you are so wedded to social constructs, to conventional thinking, to being agreeable to what you perceive as the current moral rules, that you are overwhelmed. sabanfan isnt.

I'm afraid of nothing. I fly at least 25 times a year. I drink from the tap. I eat steak every night. I don't wash fruit. I've made it 62 years and I'm healthy as an ox. I'm going to die someday. Big whoop. It's been done to death.

The guy just said "I don't care". Are you stupid? Do you imagine that deep down, he really cares?

When he is wrong I have called him wrong. When he says that he doesn't care about anybody but himself, I call him selfish.

I call you shallow and callow. Weak on science and weaker on sociology.

You don't understand global warming, which is the friggin topic. So you invent objections.

Neither of you have a friggin' clue about global warming and it is obvious. So you cry foul. Sabanfan does't care about anybody but himself and you simply don't care about anything.

i know he doesnt care. i know you dont either. you care about thinking of yourself as a person who cares.

when people call other people selfish, they should use the word "honest" instead.

red, everything anyone does is selfish. i am nice to people so they will be nice to me. i am generous because i want people to like me. i am not just inherently good or unselfish, that would be totally irrational and make no sense. there are rare cases of altruism in nature, but they are always to further the gene pool of the local tribe, like a bird that tweets at his own risk but saves his brothers. the goal is still to save the genes. so altruism, in the sense of the word that people use it, it really a nonsense idea meant to make people feel good about themselves and tell each other they are good.

it simply does not make any damn sense to care about humankind 3 genrations from now. particularly from our perspective of rich white westerners that survive global disasters far better than most everyone. our grandkids will be fine. so to pretend like you care, i just dont believe you. it doesnt make any sense. it is part of an affected philosophy put together by the left. an outlet for the guilt inherent in humans. the same guilt that people on the right will treat with a dose of religion.

red doesnt care about anyone but himself either, and that is nothing to be ashamed of.

You don't know chit about me, amigo. You are wrong, once again.

You have an unfortunate tendency to imagine that your own feelings are shared by everybody. It's a really foolish thing to do. And you are wrong, once again.

It doesn't to a selfish egotist. Fortunately most of us are better men than you.

I don't have any feelings of guilt. That is something that you always bring up. You probably got it from your therapist. You should listen to her.

Once more you feel compelled to project your own faults and failings upon everybody. I suppose it makes you feel better. It must be miserable to be such a small human being. I feel sorry for you, but not guilty. You are self-made.
