Got to spend a little time with Ben while he was in Lubbock for the College Baseball Hall of Fame induction. Just want to say that he was by far the most engaging personality of all of the inductees. I wish I could have spent more time with him and Posey (Maxwell winner from FSU). Both of them are feel good folk. Not a compliment I just throw around.
He was a good kid. Guess he's pushing 40 now. He does color commentary for the LSU baseball games. Provides a nice pitcher's insight.
Show you how old I am...........His parents live just around the corner from my in-laws and always have. My wife would babysit him and his sister when she still lived down there (off Pete's Hwy in DS). I can remember playing BB with him on his driveway and couldn't believe how competitive he was at a very young age. I was just doin a Shaq Attack on him and he started crying (he was maybe 8 or 9 years old), he hated to lose. After LSU, I went off to USAF Pilot training and ultimately ended up at Barksdale in the USAFR flying the A-10. I can remember coming home for DSHS football in the 1985 season I think, my sister graduated with him, had not seen Ben in a few years, he was the KICKER!!! (I think that was also last time DSHS had a good team, Glen Glass et al) Needless to say my Shaq days with him were long over, as he was as tall as he is now in the 12th grade.:geaux:
