Let's get this discussion started. We are six days away from the Belmont Stakes and possibly history. The more I study the race, the more I'm convinced Big Brown will win easily. His only real challenger is Casino Drive who has only two career starts (The Peter Pan Stakes and an allowance race in Japan). Not enough seasoning in my opinion.

Casino Drive might turn out to be a decent horse, but he's not in the class of Big Brown.

So basically this is a match race with no one else having a shot?

Here are the contenders in Alpha. order with their Most recent speed ratings next to their names.

    Anak Nakal 94
    Big Brown 114
    Casino Drive 108
    Denis of Cork 103
    Icabad Crane 106
    Macho Again 107
    Ready's Echo 99
    Spark Candle 76
    Tale of Ekati 99

If Big Brown is healthy, I think he wins. Problem is, I don't think they would run this horse right now if the triple crown wasn't on the line. He may be fine, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Casino Drive is the biggest threat, but Denis of Cork, Macho Again, and Tale of Ekati will all benefit from the short field and extra distance.

That being said, a 80% or better Big Brown could probably win the race. He basicall galloped out the last two furlongs in the Preakness.

    I agree.

The race is longer but Big Brown should still probably be the favorite. Once I read about his regular steroid injections though, the race holds little interest for me.

I realize this means that the other horses may use it as well but.......

I'm still bummed that our local favorite, Risen Star, didn't win the Triple Crown in 1988. The crowded field in the Kentucky Derby probably cost him the shot but he still finished third.

He smoked the field in the Preakness and Belmont and looked like his dad, Secretariat, with little Eddie Delahoussaye on his back.

That was a good run...even if we had to listen to Ronnie Lamarque sing. :hihi:

I remember the tv coverage showing the nuns in New Orleans cheering for Risen Star. Only in New Orleans...

    How does that one work?

Does that mean that any of those horse that you have for 2nd and 3rd can come in and you win?
