Yep... 7th in SEC in total offense, 6th in scoring. A run of the mill, middle of the pack SEC offensive performance is the one season the pumpers point to when defending the Miles offensive strategy. Ridiculous.
Beyond ridiculous! The bar is so low at LSU even the minions point to that year as the pinnacle of offense under Miles and talk about it as a once in a lifetime offense. It's embarrassing to even see these discussions about the offense that year. Fans of teams from Ole miss, Arkansas and Vanderbilt are rolling on the floor laughing.
There were not 6 teams in the ENTIRE COUNTRY that had better talent on offense than that LSU team much less in the SEC. And we had a top 15 defense that year. If people really think Miles is turning it around next year with his stone age offense, the current DC, and the issues we have on defense they are out of their mind.
It's misleading. The offense was very good and very efficient. The top offenses in points and yards will be those that run a hurry-up. The hurry-up is used by NCAA teams that are either a) small, like TCU and Texas Tech, or b) have bad defenses they need to cover up for, like that year's Auburn and Texas ATM. Beckham was not underutilized that year. He won an award for best all around or most versatile or something. He had 1,000 yards receiving, returned punts, and shared the ball with another 1,000 receiver.
Yes, teams like Florida St, Ohio St, Clemson, Georgia, Wisconsin, Louisville and Alabama. All teams that finished ranked higher than LSU in total offense that year.
