I know there aren't a lot of OOC games scheduled against real opponents, so I'm not sure how often this could have happened, but. We've beaten Oregon who will be the Pac-12 champion. We've beaten WVU who has a share of the Big East title (may be the BCS winner if Cincinnati wins tomorrow). We might get OSU if they are the winners of the OU game thus Big-12 champions. I mean when you take into account, that's the 1, 2, 3 conferences (we're 1 or 2 depending on how you look at it), and Big 12 is 1 or 2, and Pac-12 is third, that's pretty impressive. If only we had scheduled MSU lol. As it is, anyone else remember a year when the national champions took down 3 other conference champions in the same year?
I was hoping you wouldn't ask...USC. In 2006 they beat Arkansas, Nebraska, Michigan and Notre Dame. Arkansas had won the West. Notre Dame was the best of the Independents. Not reaching but they were 10-2 before we smashed them in the Sugar that year.
Hm. While that is still impressive, none of those teams were conference champions. I just can't believe that a conference champion has beaten the conference champion from 3 other major conferences in the same year.
Ohio St won the Big 10 that year and the Sooners won the Big 12. Ohio St proceeded to get ass-pounded by the Gators in the NCG. And yeah, ND has no conference, so nothing there, either. Georgia won the SEC that year. TX beat SC in the Rose.
They were conference "bests". I thought that's what we were talking about. Each was conference champion of their div. As we've seen in the SEC sometimes the "best" is convoluted. I don't know if that has EVER happened. Does anyone know? Yeah I had caught my mistake and edited. That's why I hoped he wouldn't ask. I wasn't sure and had to go back and dig. I just remember USC fans saying they'd beaten the best of several conferences back when I was posting on their boards.
Yeah well, they apparently just made that up because none of the teams you mentioned won their respective conferences, except for TX, who beat SC. Arky didn't even play for the title that year (LSU did), and NB/Mich lost their conferences outright. That's what you get for listening to those yahoos!
