yes a DC thread...but i'm trying to do this somewhat simply without doing a poll because i think i'd forget all the choices to plug in.

i've seen some pretty good debate on here especially regarding chavis and orgeron.

but i'd like to know everyone's feelings on who they would want as the DC.

try to rule out guys who wouldn't make a lateral move to LSU (nick holt, bud foster, charlie strong, etc.)

and maybe consider some guys LSU would go after given the amount of $ that may be involved and how being the DC at LSU might be a step up in a career (ellis johnson at south car, nix at ole miss, ron english at louisville, dick bumpas at TCU, etc.)

and of course both chavis (currently unemployed) and orgeron (mentioned he'd listen to an LSU offer) are options.

who do want hired, what would it take to get your guy here, and why do you like them???

:geaux::crystal::helmet: I like Chavis because he is a proven SEC DC over many years and that's what LSU needs right now. Chavis has had some great defences at Tenn over the years and would continue that trend at LSU with the players currently on the team and the talent coming in. When this guy has the horses, he's hard to beat. Now is not the time for LSU to experiment with somebody who has no DC experience either. That's what got us into this mess in the first place, see the Mallory/Peveto debacle. IMO CLM needs to hire a top notch DC in order to get LSU back in the top tier of the SEC, get the team back on an even keel and save this recruiting class. And he needs to do it sooner rather than later. Money won't be an issue as LSU will pay top dollar, but I don't think the team, fans, administration, etc. are in the mood for any further experimentation. They want experience and results in 2009. I'm afraid if CLM doesn't demote Mallory and Peveto he may put himself on the hot seat next year. They've proven they can't do the job and for my money, Chavis is the man. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

I hire the craziest son of a bitch available and that is Uncle Ed. Forgive him for his inability to confront an entire teams need to succeed however give him the reigns in reducing his overhead and allow him to run with it. I think he has the ability to bring discipline to the talent pool and shape headhunters into a talented defensive scheme that will be smash mouth the way they should be.

Dude can recruit but so does a winning program kids want to be a part of. He or whomever needs to create winning first then reward that winning with the best kids that want to be part of it all. Sounds fundamental but if it were so easy, this would not have been topic worthy all season long.

Albert Einstein said "Insanity is defined by those do the same thing over and over and expect a different result". Ed, I feel has something different that can be effective. Does LSU want another science project? The same should be said for others as well.

    Chavis.

He is SEC all the way.
He has been consistently at the top for 15 years.
He isn't going to bolt after a couple of years.
He is a linebacker's coach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally.
He is available now (most importantly) and can be gotten quite easily.

I put out the cliff note's version because I have a hard time reading long posts so I figure it was easiest this way.

Chavis. Proven SEC Defensive Coordinator. Has put alot of players in the NFL including albert haynesworth the meanest ric flair like dirtiest player in the game. I would also throw alot of money at Ed O to come home and be the d line coach and help with recruiting. But i think there is still some bad blood between Miles and the big O over Joe McKnight.

:geaux::crystal::helmet: Would love to see "Big Eddie O" join LSU's staff as DL coach with Chavis as OC, but don't think it will happen. Agree with the bad blood issue. I'm just hopin' we get Chavis at least. "Big O" would be a great bonus though! :hihi: :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

You meant Chavis as DC, and Ogeron as DL coach. Yeah, that would be a nice set up, if possible.

So far the consensus seems to be Chavis as DC, with Orgeron as DL coach. Anyone in the know as to if/when this might happen?

I would assume CLM is out recruiting currently...

I would kind of like to take a chance on a younger guy like Charlie Harbison.
