In reading this and other threads I sense that people believe that every coach would fall all over themselves to be head coach here. While it is a prestige job most coaches would probably say its not quite as prestigious as Notre Dame or Michigan. Remember how that was - it was like coaches were standing in line to brush them off. Every coach knows this is a 5 year job at the most - no one has lasted longer than that since Charlie Mac was run off. So hey guys come on down; we guaranty a rabid fan base, good talent, good pay, and your ass will be fried and retired in 5 years. Who's next!! There are hundreds of pieces to this team and a couple aren't working; QB and OC. The rest looks good to great - and Les is just as responsible for the good as the bad. He hired the DC, I do remember a lot of grumbling about the Chief, and he recruited the players. Thats all good. Does he screw up sometimes - sure; so did the Deity (everyone here do the obligatory genuflect at he mention of NS). He lost to La Monroe for crying out loud. And was there an incident of burning is Nick's yard after a loss, or was that a rumor. I guess he just wasn't good enough for us.
That is completely and utterly false. 2010 = One 4 star, Six 3 star, 2.80 avg 2009 = Zero 4 star, Eleven 3 star, 2.52 avg 2008 = Zero 4 star, Five 3 star, 2.26 avg 2007 = Zero 4 star, Seven 3 star, 2.24 avg 2006 = Zero 4 star, Three 3 star, 2.18 avg If you meant that he has Vanderbilt talent playing WAC competition, you sir are very correct. Imagine Vandy beating the likes of Fresno State, Nevada, San Jose State and Hawaii by an average of 51-6 scores. EVERY year. And beating up on BCS Schools to the tune of a 6-1 record since 2006. Now give him LSU's players with his own coordinators (his entire coaching staff in place). You might as well declare LSU national champions before the goddamn season even begins. The onslaughts would be that bad.
We want him to not be a moron, actually. But now that we know that's not possible, we just want him gone. What trials you speak of that Les Miles has "worked through"? His buffonery is at all time new heights. When you gave LSU fans declaring they are embarrassed of their head coach, that's a low that you just can't sink to. You said you can't defend him anymore. What happened to that? You're defending him worse than ever.
Coaches are attracted to LSU because of the opportunity to win, not really for "prestige". LSU is in the top-10 All time football programs, that is prestige enough for most coaches. The last two coaches here recruited well, averaged 10 wins, and won crystal footballs. There is no BCS school to compete with LSU in recruiting in Louisiana, which is a huge draw. We play in the SEC, which is another draw. We don't play in the snow, which helps recruiting.
It's really hard to compare them to BCS schools. They have 19 Seniors on the roster, one of which was a JC transfer. Of the remaining 18, only four played as true freshmen. The remaining 14 redshirted. By comparison, LSU only has 15 seniors on the roster, and only 6 redshirted. Boise St. will rarely ever have players leave early, though Kellen Moore (who also redshirted, btw) may this year. They develop their players very differently, knowing that they will keep almost all of them for 5 years. That's an extra year of coaching, maturity, and physical development in a collegiate S&C program that most top tier players at BCS schools don't get. Now, don't get me wrong, I think they are a very well coached, disciplined football team, but I don't think the difference would be that dramatic if you started giving them 4 and 5 star guys. You would have players like Patrick Peterson leaving after 3 years, instead of 5, and I think that makes a big difference.
