Sounds absolutely insane. But it "could" happen. The computer polls won't be in Florida's favor even after a win over Bama. Florida could be as far as .0600 behind Texas after Saturday's games (.9300 vs .8700, e.g.). That means Florida needs to average a .0300 advantage in each of the human polls. As it stands now, Florida only owns a .0080 advantage over Texas collectively, a whopping .0520 short of that goal. An entire spot difference in either poll equates to roughly a .0400 avantage. So basically Florida has to be 3/4 of a spot better than Texas in each human poll on average. So, what if Florida wins ugly, 13-10. Bama's defense stops Florida's offense cold and Bama driving for a game winning FG fumbles the ball and Florida then drives for their GW FG instead in the waning minutes? Two schools of thought here: a close Florida win would drop Bama to #3 in the computer polls, wedging themselves between Florida and Texas. In that case, that should do the trick. If Florida blows Bama out, then Bama certainly falls below Texas in every human voter's poll. No wedge effect. But then you would expect Florida to leap all the way to a solid #1. But then what if OU beats Missouri just as badly? What about the Texas sentiment that they were screwed in this week's BCS rankings? Could the voters that have Texas above Florida leave them right where they are? One think I can say for sure, Florida is fortunate that Bama was able to stay undefeated and keep their computer score as high as possible, as well as their #1 ranking in the human polls. In the end, I don't think it will be that close. I refuse to think the voters could want to see a Texas/OU rematch. But then again, this is the BCS.
Yeah the voters will hold all the cards again this season. Texas has getting screwed on their side, but they also have not winning their conference against them. Even if it was a debacle. This is going to get interesting for sure.
Dude, after Pitt knocked off West Virginia (w/ the Big East officials doing everything in their power to prevent it) to put us in the BCSNCG last year, NOTHING in this mess we call the BCS can be called insane.
I just do not think OU can smoke Missou. Call it pay back from last year but I think OU is a bit broken right now and Fl is gonna fly on all cylinders gainst Bama. Feels right but then again after Pitt beating WV last year, one should never say till the end of the day.
no one will put texas and ou in the championship ... the humans will control it just like last year ... when florida wins they will go ... IF ou wins they will go
I agree. I promise you that there will be at least 1 voter from each human poll vote Texas #1 in protest. Bet that. What if OU struggles and looks like crap, especially their defense but still manages to win? Maybe even more sentiment from the Pro-Texas voters?
The saddest part of all of this is that Bama is the only team left in the mix that can salvage LSU's distinction as the only team with a pair of balls. I'll gladly lose that distinction.
60+ points in each of their last 4 games sure doesn't sound broken to me. In fact, IMHO, if there's any team in the country right now that could give Florida a run for their money, it would be Oklahoma.
Yeah, I have no idea where that came from either. I think Texas would offer the best chance vs Florida. Colt McCoy is a true dual threat QB when the opportunity presents itself. Bradford won't run unless it's absolutely necessary. Texas D is much better than OU's. That's the real difference. Texas Tech would have put up 50 on OU's defense in Lubbock. Texas should have held Tech to 31 had the dude intercepted the pass. Florida 51, OU 34 Florida 38, Texas 31
