The prevailing word on the streets is that with an OU win today, they will end up ahead of Texas in the BCS ranking tomorrow and thus get a shot at the Big 12 championship. A loss by OU and Texas Tech gets that shot. If we use the hypothetical that either Tech or OU beats Missouri in the Big 12 championship, Texas would have no shot at the NC (given the fact that Auburn and Florida don't get upset today). Maybe you ask, why would Texas not make it to the NC if OU loses? Because the pollsters would jump a 12-1 Texas Tech team over an 11-1 Texas team in which Tech won the Big 12 and beat Texas. And deservedly so.
Yeah but honestly, I don't like UT so watching OU lose another NC to the SEC and increase their bowl loss count would be sweet for me.
Herbstreit just said USC would be in position for the NC if OU lost today. Talk about being in a bad spot, the pundits now consider USC a team in waiting over Texas. That's not gonna happen because of the computer polls. USC simply won't make up much ground on Texas and would need to be a solid #2 over a #3 Texas in the human polls. Not happening.
Herbstreit I think gets his football insite from reading the peanuts in his poop. I sure hope he was a better QB than he is a football analyst.
