Nope, the conference championship isn't part of the equation, if the voters vote correctly then the system will work and the one loss SEC team will make it.

We will be playing Arkansas which will be very highly ranked by seasons end.

This has to factor into the equation...certainly doesn't hurt.

The BCS formula is different today... Human polls comprise 2/3rds of the vote now, the separate SOS component has been removed, etc. The BCS rules do not prohibit a team that doesnt win its conference championship rom being in the BCS championship game, but I think that the current BCS formula makes it harder for such a team to do so.

I don't believe a 1 loss Alabama team will be able to sneak into the BCS championship game because the loss would be a home loss. Why give them a second chance at a neutral field?

Personally, if we don't beat Bama, I would not want to play Bama again in the BCS NC. There's just too much opportunity for sour grapes in that scenario. If we won the NC against Bama after losing to Bama earlier, you'd have a 1/1 split. That would be no fun for anyone ... as both teams would be able to say "we beat". It'd turn out to be like Baseball .... best 2/3. blah blah blah.

I still don't think we lose to Bama on Nov 5th.

It goes back to that gut feeling stuff. Neither Bama nor LSU have seen significant competition. Of all the offenses, I'd say Oregon was probably the most balanced and lethal. WVU and AR are too 1 dimensional. The rest just plain suck!

I still think we have the more balanced offensive, and McCarron hasn't seen a really good secondary coupled with a decent pass rush yet. I have a feeling he throws a pick or two that puts the game out of reach for Bama to win.

This is the game where Jarrett Lee's experience will come to the fore and prove itself. He's played against really good Bama defenses before, and has the pick 6s to prove it. :geaux:

good point. I don't think they would give LSU a second chance because it's LSU. Boise State is going to end up playing for a national championship this year. Pokes can't beat OU unless Miles is on the sideline, Stanford is a joke, and shouldn't even be mentioned, Kansas State, yeah right. Clemson will lose one, and if they don't and LSU gets through, I wouldn't mind laying the smack down on Clemson, show them who the real Tigers are.

They are probably more pissed at Miles because they can't beat OU without him.

I totally agree with your post except I disagree about us not seeing significant competition. I have been saying the same things about McCarron, he is a first year QB, Bama hasn't played anyone like us all year.
I wouldn't want to play Bama more than once, once is enough, win or lose I'll take it. I really don't think this Bama team is as good as last years team for obvious reasons already stated. I'll go ahead and say it, I think they overrated this year, go take a look at their schedule, no comparison to our team. I don't think the game will be as close as people think either, we win by 10 points or more. Two things could keep it close, rivalry and in their backyard.

I lined up the competition in the "Gut Feeling" thread. Basically.

    WVU is our AR
    Kentucky is our Vandy
    TN and TN
    FL and FL
    Northtexas vs Northwestern
IMO .. Auburn is equal to Penn State.

Where we come out on top .....

MState > Ol Piss (State has the 19th ranked Defense)
Oregon >>>>>> Kent State. ( no comment needed)

Tusk makes a good point about Bama .. their defense has experience, mostly Juniors and Seniors. BUT .. as you note, they haven't seen a decent offense at all. FL was probably the best potential until Brantley went down.

The only real test for us was Oregon. BUT .. we handled them quite nicely.

I honestly think the score is going to look something real close to ........

    LSU (27-30) to Bama (17-21). :yelwink2:

Gundy may be the most underrated coach in college football.

You'll hear Pinkel and Ferenz and coaches like that before you ever hear about Gundy.
