This seems to mean that we will play Baylor because they are booked up and WSU is overbooked. So they drop their game, WSU's schedule is set, and then we play Baylor making our schedule and their schedule set....right?
I think, if we drop North Texas, and add Baylor, we'll still be short 1 game. Maybe I'm missing something.....
as far as I know, they don't plan to drop the NT game. The current LSUsports.net schedule is good, but there will be a game added to it somewhere.
According to UNT, we are dropping that game. Also, LSU didn't say we ARE dropping it...but they said we MIGHT drop it. I'm betting we do.
if LSU can get the right opponent for this ESPN deal that week, then yes, we could easily drop the game with them, then schedule another cupcake in one of the byes.
Other things I have heard...but have no proof of...(I don't think ANYBODY knows for sure). I heard we may wind up moving the '09 App St game to '08...start the season off with the D1 champs against the D2 champs. (August 30) I've heard Rutgers, Baylor, Syracuse, Texas Tech, and others mentioned as possible additions to the schedule next season...('08)...and it wouldn't neccessarily be on 9/13/08...they may do some switching around to make something happen. Who knows? I actually hope it's TT...although a lot of folks are against that with our raw secondary. I don't think we'd struggle with them though...especially if we got pressure up front. Worse comes to worse...we outscore 'em.
Dandy Don said today: “there are reports out of Dallas that the LSU - North Texas game to open the 2008 LSU football season has been cancelled, but LSU is denying the report.” On another board there is also talk of canceling UNT, all of it as best I can tell stemming from a single conversation with a friend of a UNT freshman. The Dallas Star Telegram has the most credible info in my opinion – LINK: “The 2008 opener at national champion LSU on Aug. 30 could be moving but would require string-pulling. LSU, with one open date, apparently wants to play a TV game on Aug. 30 against a better opponent than UNT.” If North Texas can juggle their schedule and let us play on 8/30, then I believe that Texas Tech who needs an opponent on that day becomes the matchup. The Times Picayune article Wednesday quoted Ausbery as saying “I've narrowed it down to a conference and a team.” All signs seem to point to the Big 12 and more specifically the state of Texas. Texas and Texas A&M don’t seem interested, Baylor is more work logistically. Tis the silly season, what else is there to talk about right now We’ll know when we know, but Texas Tech would create a lot more anticipation over the summer for game 1.
I would then look forward to the return game if it's TT because I've heard for years that they were talking about doing a home and home--with the "home" game for TT being in Dallas. That would be great for me!
