You'd think with Oklahoma's high powered offenses getting shutdown by us in 2003 and Florida in 08, they would have learned by now. But no...Did they not watch the Oregon game? Or the one last year?
Here is an index of 82 computer rankings: College Football Ranking Comparison I don't know how reliable this is, and never heard of most of these (some of them are hilarious), but it obviously suggests that the computers don't love LSU as much as we expected. Most of the actual BCS component rankings are available online: Anderson & Hester <not yet updated> Heading into last weekend, the top five were: 1. Alabama 2. Texas (LOL!) 3. Clemson 4. Boise State 5. LSU Billingsley 1. LSU 2. Alabama 3. Oklahoma 4. Boise State 5. Oklahoma State ColleyMatrix 1. Alabama 2. Oklahoma 3. Oklahoma State 4. LSU 5. Michigan Massey 1. Alabama 2. LSU 3. Boise State 4. Oklahoma 5. Stanford Sagarin 1. Alabama 2. LSU 3. Oklahoma 4. Boise State 5. Wisconsin Wolfe <unavailable> Even some of these are hilarious (e.g. LA Lafayette ranked ahead of Oregon in the ColleyMatrix). It's still pretty early. Computer rankings don't handle smallish samples very well.
If we dominate TN and the BARN ... and then beat Bama .... LSU will ranked so far ahead of every other team, it'll be just sad for the rest of CFB.
I saw on ESPN , excuse me if this was brought out already , but this was the Projected by them ... 1.Alabama 2.LSU 3.Oklahoma 4.Oklahoma State 5.Boise State
But actually, the rankings and polls DO mean squat. If we were not ranked 4 at the beginning of the season, slated to play 2 teams ahead of us, we could be sitting in the back part of the top 10, like Wisconsin, BSU, Stanford, etc. absolutely needing teams in front of us to lose. Fortunately, we control our destiny, but the other teams I mentioned do not. And it's all because of rankings. Who's to say, if OU, for instance, doesn't start out ranked #1 that a team like Wisconsin wouldn't be higher in the rankings that the Sooners? Preseason and early season polls mean a whole lot, especially in a year when so many teams are still undefeated halfway through the season.
Strength of schedule still means a lot in the subjective polls. LSU's schedule is rugged, making it difficult to go undefeated, but if they do, they will go into the BCS national championship game. All that matters is to finish in the BCS top two in December. LSU could even take a November loss to Bama and not drop out of range. Those other undefeated teams are going to winnow out as the season progresses. LSU won both national championships carrying losses.
