Thats right, I forgot about the big least, they should fall with the others. ACC Big Ten Big 12 Pac 10 SEC BCS Buster - MWC, WAC, Big East, etc.
That's not what the +1 system is about. Plus 1 is about having the top teams play on New Years Day and then after the BCS formula goes through one more iteration/computation, the top 2 teams play each other. It gives teams that aren't in the top 2 of the BCS one last chance. I think it's a silly compromise, as teams are inevitably going to be unfairly paired with someone else in a bowl that won't likely raise their stock (e.g, USC playing Illinois in the Rose Bowl a few years back). The alternative plus 1 is more like the one I propose, which is a 4 team playoff, but it is rarely talked about and probably not the option they would take, because of silly bowl tie-ins. The Rose Bowl is mainly to blame on any of this.
i thought the cotton bowl was left out of the bcs because of the avg temperature for the game. am i crazy? (not in general, dammit.....about the temperature!)
It's true the weather can be poor in Dallas in January, though there is still relatively little snow or ice. The strong winds are killer, however. But Jerry World can be closed up, so that old argument against the Cotton Bowl no longer holds water.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the BCSNC rule was the SECCG winner plays the best team of the other conferences, unless the SECCG winner is Auburn.
I hear you, but regardless of what system put in place, anything shy of a playoff and we will continue to have complaining & uncertainty. I don’t want to take away from the college football regular season. I just wish, if teams like Boise St. & TCU want to be considered for the NCG, they need to face the type of games that SEC & Other Big Conference teams have to face week in & week out – Any player, coach, or clear minded fan or analyst will tell you that, Facing ranked opponents back to back or even going on the road in the SEC is extremely challenging. A lot of fans will say; “Its simple, win your conference” – ALL SEC Fans know – ITS NOT THAT EASY! Again, no dis-respect to Boise or TCU…..but they do not face what SEC & other big conference teams have to face week in and week out so having an undefeated record given their schedule is not that impressive
Is it a good idea to turn a 13 game season into a 17 game season for 18, 19, and 20 year old kids? And the additional games would all be tough games week to week. Something about that worries me. Heisman has become such a farce that it may not be salvageable. It's the poster child for your basic money and influence award. Boring. Money will always buy an edge to championships. And money is proportional to the intensity of the fan base. That's the SEC's true power, the fans support their teams therefore they can buy the best facilities and hire the best coaches and everything always with added intensity. I bet the day college football goes to a playoff system is the day the pool of teams starts to drop. The rich will get richer, the small will stay small, and the middle will get squeezed. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Every year it seems we talk about how we could end up with multiple undefeated teams and it happens about once a decade because five or six team inevitably lose to someone they shouldn't. Let's just see how it plays out.
And the award for the decades best Kool-Aid goes to; "A playoff system will end the controversy and complaining":lol:
