When talking about a playoff, remember that the BCS conferences now control most of the money. One of the reasons we have so much money and so many games on TV is because 72 schools threatened to leave the NCAA a couple of decades ago and I think sued the ncaa in order to get control over tv contracts and the rules over how many times schools could appear on both regional and national telecasts. They also re-organized who would be in D-1 and D-1A. That is when conferences took control over most of the money by signing tv contracts and bowl contracts. Over the years a bunch of the D-1A schools have fought their way back up to D-1 (now FBS) status and the major schools didn't really mind because it didn't affect their cash too much.

If a playoff system is implemented I think we would likely see some kind of split yet again as the NCAA would have control over the playoff money and those major conferences would not like that. Lawsuits will be abundant.

I think so, too. And I predict the Cotton Bowl in Jerryworld will either be the 5th BCS bowl or will replace the Fiesta.

But a 5th BCS bowl would be preferable with a plus one set-up.

I'm not totally convinced its better. Either way IMO we need an 8 team playoff using the current bowl system.
