LSU should have faced USC in 03. Miami should have faced Oregon in 01. USC should have faced Auburn in 04. That's three right there and I could dig deeper and probably find 3 more.
Yeah I know you were, but the relevance with what I said was "get it right". As in, LSU vs Oklahoma State. Again, in the unlikely scenario that an undefeated LSU loses close to Alabama in the BCS CG, what exactly have you proven and why have you cheated the nation out of determining a champion?
So many have lots of esteem invested in bama playing in the bcs cg. They picked bama preseason. They picked bama to beat lsu. They have their professional pride invested in being right about bama. They want to say " I picked bama to win it all before the season started ". Bama was the cool pick. The in crowd that thinks they knows football picked Bama to win it all. They will have egg on their face if bama doesn't make it to Nola. That's the reason why they will pick bama to go. They can't be wrong and save face.
I think in lieu of a playoff the BCS has been a huge success in both matching up the 2 best teams compared to the non-existent system we had before. And also by creating enough controversy to keep CFB in the forefront year around. The system isn't near perfect but the arguments it creates has made CFB more popular than ever before. Also, to be frank if I were a college player I'd hate the prospect of a 16 or 17 game schedule. I'd even venture to say that it would cost quite a few players there pro career due to serious injury.
the entire D-I system and BCS are broken and need to be blown up. While it's safe to say that the SEC has benefited, it's also safe to state that the SEC as a whole would have benefited more by using the same playoff system used in D-II and D-III (FCS) This sport is corrupted from top to bottom, from the good 'ole boy network contracts, to the bowl committees, to the officiating.
I do think the next "step" is a plus one. That will happen, I think, after the next season when the BCS contract is up.
