You all may be right but I'm not so sure. OU got in on computer rankings. LSU won the SEC and USC won the Pac 10. OU did not win the Big 10. Do you think the voters would have still given it to OU even though they did not win their conference?
I think so. You have to remember, LSU was just 3 years removed from a decade of abysmal football. We weren't taken all the seriously at that point. Even Saban was a Johnny-come-lately. The computers certainly put OU in the NCG but I think they put LSU there as well.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but after the Big 12 championship, in the AP poll, LSU and USC were 1 and 2 and OU dropped to 3. The BCS put OU in the game. Here's the AP week 17 poll: December 7, 2003 Week 17 AP Poll AP Top 25 Week 17 (Dec. 9 - 15) 1. USC (42) 11-1 2. LSU (21) 12-1 3. Oklahoma (2) 12-1 4. Michigan 10-2 5. Texas 10-2 6. Tennessee 10-2 7. Ohio State 10-2 8. Kansas State 11-3 9. Florida State 10-2 10. Miami 10-2 11. Georgia 10-3 12. Purdue 9-3
A true post season should be setup to do ONE thing: Determine who the best team in the country is. Effectiveness at accomplishing this: Play-off > Plus one > BCS > Old bowl system Just no logical argument can be made against that. Points irrelevant to determining who is truly the best team in the land: A play-off would take away from the excitement of the regular season A play-off would add too many games Controversy makes college football interesting Not saying that those points are true or false. They just are not relevant to my initial statement.
It's a total success if you're asking about the fan interest in the regular season. It's at an all time high with all the controversy that goes on seemingly every year. It's a total failure if you think it produces the true #1 team in the country at year's end. It ultimately depends on your perspective.
i used to be pro playoff. nootch convinced me i love this stuff better. but subject to change after this year if we lose and/or get screwed.
I miss that sawed-off lil bastage. Grad told him he could ride his bike anywhere he wanted in the neighborhood but he was never to cross over the railroad tracks. Poor simbah.
Serious question. How many times do you think it failed to produce the best team? I always thought that in the end it was correct, for the most part.
yeah hes crying in his beer. I just had a word with him to break the news the Red Sox hired Bobby Valentine. :hihi: Since my astros suck and are going to get shelled in the AL I can only enjoy and revel in another fans pain. which i did.
