The restaurant "wait" isn't much of a concern for me. I'm traveling solo, so i'll be eating at the bar!

Nope, that is not how us southerns do it. You never eat alone even at the bar. Some one will talk to you. I know, Northerns hate it. Just be a good sport and play along. The whole when in Rome thing.

Oh believe me, I have no problem talking to people at the bar. I'm looking forward to mingling with the locals.....

Go to the Chimes, get some boudin balls and some gator sausage and wash it down with an Abita Andygator.

    1. Try to crash a nice tailgate party...they'll be plenty to choose from. Look for a big black pot of jambalaya.

    2. Walk On's is probably the most popular sports bar right across from campus on Burbank. I recommend the boudin balls.

    3. Tiger Mania on 4410 Highland Road is a great place to buy LSU gear.

    4. There are many places to choose from, but I always enjoy Sammy Grill on 8635 Highland Road, but you would have to take a taxi there. It's probably 10 minutes from campus, so I suggest not doing that on gameday b/c traffic will be nuts.

huh? New orleans is the last place in the universe to go for "cajun" food....new orleans food is "new Orlean's" food (french/creole), along with standard seafood found anywhere along the gulf coast.

Dragos, although one of my favorites, has nothing at all to do with louisiana food (they cook foods that can be caught in louisiana, oysters, shrimp, etc, but again, its just standard seafood)...

baton rouge is generally horrid except for the above mentioned places like ralph and kacoos/mike andersons, but they are kind of touristy/restaurant foody type places.

Really you need to go to the tailgating areas or any number of hole in the wall places in lafayette. (Nash's in Broussard, about 10 minutes from I-10, cafe vermillionville, prejeans, dwights). Avoid cafe blue dog, that is tourist food.

    So:
    Best seafood: Dragos new orleans
Best cajun food: LSU tailgating, or lafayette
Best Touristy food: Ralph and Kacoos, Mike andersons.

dont get trapped by the seafood gumbo anywhere, go for a a good chicken and adouille and see what the real deal is son.

I stand corrected. He did say cajun. Prejeans for Cajun. Drago's for seafood (although there is nothing "standard" about Drago's). I also agree with the whole gumbo thing and tourist traps...often imitated never duplicated. Anywhere you go if you want the real deal you are going to have to drive an hour. If you don't want to drive go with Chimes.

Now that is standard. They have good red beans and rice.

Some of the places listed are closed on Sunday. So call first.
