I've seen Mackey play. This season against Evangel and his soph season versus Breaux Bridge (State Championship), two pretty good teams. I would compare him to Arnaz Battle...who I think was not used well at all when he was at Notre Lame. Mackey is a very smooth player, his passes seem almost effortless, his running is base on doing what he needs; maybe a spin, a hand down on the ground to help him stay up, a simple side step or finishing off with a hit on the tacklers...and yes that is plural, unless he is caught by surprise, he will not be brought down by just one guy, he is just hard to get a hold of, not so much that he's gonna bust someone's skull, but very elusive.

I like him a lot and hope we do offer him.

But, this guy has all of them but the height. Matt won us a NC and was no where close to a NFL guy. IMO winning is more important that putting out NFL prospects. This guy hasn't lost a game in three years and will finish the year undefeated and three state championships in a row.

Yes I understand we're a "big time" program now but I sure would hate to miss out on a winner just because he was a few inches short.

hey cparso i gurantee your tune would change if you saw this kid play i promise u.......guys let me tell you something im 5-11 i know what 5-11 looks like the kid isnt 5-11.....thats 2 many 5-11 references hahahahaha
i wish you could see how strong and accurate this kids arm is....he literally flicks the ball i.e. jamarcus russell im not saying his arm is that strong but its strong....i belive if chris leak and troy smith can play big time division 1 football i know this kid can....if i were him i wouldnt come to lsu if thats the way they fell he should go to grambling or southern and break some records

Mississippi State or Auburn might sneak up and grab him but he really wants to come to LSU. If i were him and LSU didnt offer a scholarship for me to play any position i would go to Auburn because the QB depth is going to be weak since B.Cox is leaving and he is better than Kodi Burns IMO who got playing time this year as a TRUE Freshman and they are around the same height. Then he would have a chance to show what LSU was missing out on.

How tall do you think he really is then? If he really is only 5-9 then that would explain why he isn't being recruited by LSU. I was just going by reports that said he was more like 5'11", 6'0" .

If he is 6' then I wonder why we took DC Jefferson over Mackey? DC looks really raw while Mackey is smooth as silk. Didn't Mackey start at QB as a 8th grader for Sulpher High School? I know he transfered to Bastrop after Katrina.
