I do wonder a bit about some coaching philosophies these days in only running a man to man defense. It's almost an ego thing touting "my athletes against your athletes". Sometimes you need to run primarily a zone "D" to force a bigger team to the outside especially if you can't keep up with a faster team. Living and dying by one defense isn't conducive to a good all around defensive team. Brown's teams always played good, fundamental zones. Man to man in his era was a part of a defense but not THE defense.
I have seen his high school tape and I know he can make them. They just aren't high percentage. They're also easier when you can get into a rhythm and build confidence, which is harder to do against better competition. I wouldn't expect for Trent to worry about this now. I played golf in high school and one thing I know is you don't change your mechanics in-season (unless you are really struggling, which he isnt) Hopefull, this is something Turner can work on in the off-season. I really think it could help. It's really not a big deal. It's just something I noticed. I think going to a zone would make it harder for guards to get to the rim. As for blocking out, it is harder in a zone. But hey, we aren't blocking out playing man either. I'm not saying we should play strictly zone. We could use it when needed.
