This is Trent's 3rd year, and he won us an SEC title in his first season. As for decent DIV II status, that's laughable... There are 360 division basketball programs. So you're saying LSU is the 500th worst team in the country? That doesn't bode well for Memphis' RPI now does it? You say you aren't trolling, but you consistently come in here to post incorrect and inflammatory remarks. Don't you have a bridge to be under? I think we'll do all right once conference play starts. Oh-fer is pushing it simply due to a talent increase. It's going to be pretty hard to be worse than last season, when we went 2-14 in league play. I'm predicting between 6-8 SEC wins. Is it great? No, not at all, but we are here for a reason. Trent Johnson is a good coach, and a good program builder. He has taken Nevada and Stanford to 25+ win seasons (and LSU too but you didn't know that) and took each to the sweet 16 after initial mediocrity. It won't take 20 years at all. In fact, history indicates it will only take three or four. At Nevada he went from win totals of 9, to 10, to 17, to 18, to 25. That is steady improvement which culminated in a highly successful final season. He put that school on the basketball map when he took them to a 2004 sweet 16 berth. In 2006, Stanford was 18-13 and the next season they went 28-8. This is indicative of his recruiting style, which focuses less on NBA talent and more on steady, reliable kids who will play hard, get their degree and thrive in his system. It's not flashy, but it is effective. He's building a solid program, not an occasional contender. Look at the progression he's had at his previous two stops. Basically, he's the anti-Gary Crowton. 1999–2000 Nevada 9–20 6–10 2000–2001 Nevada 10–18 3–13 2001–2002 Nevada 17–13 9–9 2002–2003 Nevada 18–14 10–6 T–3rd NIT First Round 2003–2004 Nevada 25–9 13–5 T–1st NCAA Sweet 16 2004–2005 Stanford 18–13 11–7 T–3rd NCAA 1st Rd 2005–2006 Stanford 16–14 11–7 T–4th NIT 2nd rd 2006–2007 Stanford 18–13 10–8 6th NCAA 1st Rd 2007–2008 Stanford 28–8 13–5 2nd NCAA Sweet 16
Since you've already made up your mind that LSU can never be a national basketball power, I'm sure Arkansas State could use another booster after the many successes their coach has had with their sterling 3-7 record.
Sounds like you have a firm grasp on the current talent and experience level, and the factors contributing to it.
Brady was given plenty of time and chances, something YOU aren't affording Trent Johnson. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. It's funny how quick you'll jump to negatiger.
Many jumped on Brady from the get go. When I see results, I'll give Johnson some credit. 3 years in and still on the ground floor of rebuilding isn't comforting.
