I've been to each game except the 1st two. We have improved each game although the Centenary score is a little misleading since all of the starters were out for the final 8 minutes or so. I like the ball control...it finally looks like we are running plays instead of playing street ball. Most of the time we are working for the open shot and not running head long down the court and jacking the 1st shot we can. Several times Spencer will slow or pull the ball out to work around for a better opputunity. Cal State had a lot of quickness in moving the ball around on offense and the Tigers defended it well. Several shots were taken in despiration as the shot clock wound down. Definatly the best competion so far this season and they passed pretty well. I had told my son before the game it should be a good one and after he said " I thought you said this would be a good game?" Blowouts have him thinking this is all there will be. I'd imagine the when competion steps up so will the issues but I think Coach johnson is putting a good team on the4 floor. He doesn't put up with the crap and is quick to applaud as good play even if it doesn't always work to our favor. Hussle is what he stives for and doesn't tolerate lagging back court on transition.
You guys should easily win the west this year wth your competition being OM and Arkansas, maybe MSU. LSU is by far the best team in the West this year. I'm sure Bama will NOT be a threat as long as Gottfried is at the helm. I'm hearing this will be his last year at the Capstone. He may not last the whole season. I hope not. I feel bad for Steele...
Completely agree with you but think these two points are the most pertinent. The coach has the respect of the players, and this coach does not seem to be one to accept or offer excuses. I think we will see the team steadily improve throughout the year. Actually I think up to this point, Johnson is more than I dared hope for.
After one of the early games I remember either hearing on the postgame show or reading a quote from CTJ saying something to the effect of how one of their goals was to win the games they should win, and steal a few games they shouldn't. I was impressed with that answer. It's a very reasonable objective and one that can keep the team focused throughout the season. Nice article in Friday's Reveille about CTJ, too: http://www.lsureveille.com/johnson_preaches_growth%2C_maturity_to_players
