Since I am stuck here in Texas can anyone who has been to a game give me an honest assessment of their play this season? What is Trent Johnson courtside demeanor? I know it was probably mentioned earlier but I am too lazy tonight to search.
My friend has season tickets and calls me after every game. He says they are improving every game, and that the team plays really hard. He thinks they will over achieve this year. Look for some upsets, but some growing pains. They throw the ball away too much, and are still learning the new offense. Overall he is very positive about the future! Geaux Tigers!
From everything I read they seem to be playing clamp down defense, which I enjoy but I would like to hear that from a fan since we tend to be a little more critical.
honestly, its really tough to say given the really low SOS so far. a few decent but not great teams coming up (TxAM, WashSt, Utah) will let us know more. what i have learned is that spencer can hit an open shot enough to help a lot, but will he be open against SEC competition? and terry martin is still crappy.
Been to all the games except NW State. Here's what I've seen so far. Pros: 1. The team is playing hard for CTJ. That's an immediate improvement over last year. 2. Good rebounding so far, even though it's not against the best competition, but... 3. Very good offensive balance, again a big improvement over previous years. 4. Very good, smothering man-to-man defense. 5. Good free-throw shooting. 6. Good contributions from the bench. Cons: 1. Showed tendencies early on to take quick, bad shots like last year. This has been improved significantly in the past couple of games, though. 2. Sloppiness in transition and finishing fast breaks. This was very obvious vs. CS-Fullerton. 3. Most of the boards are on offense, often requiring 3rd and 4th chance shots. We're not gonna get those against the big boys, and boxing out on defensive rebounds is suspect. I've seen a single player zip into the lane to grab an offensive board against 2-3 LSU players a little too often. Granted, they haven't been tested by Top 25 competition, played on the road yet, had to come back from way behind, etc. But this is a good, fundamentally sound team. If this level of play keeps up throughout the season, I wouldn't be surprised to see LSU get a tournament bid this season.
:rolleye33: terry martin is "crappy" because he keeps jacking up 3s outside the flow of the offense. he isn't marcus thornton and needs to learn that. ctj sits his butt down every time he pulls an off-balance 3 after 1 pass. bo spencer does what a point guard should do: play under control, run the offense, and hit the wide open 3s. with CJ and TM down low, and Marcus outside, I really do feel like he'll be that open.
