Nice. So I figure your dad is pretty close to him. I was just reading Didier's bio recently because I was wondering how a guy from the state of Washington ended up on our team... Full name is Beau Bradford Didier ... parents are Bob and Nancy Didier ... has four older siblings ... Bob Didier played Major League baseball as a catcher from 1969-74 for the Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox ... Beau’s grandfather, Mel Didier – a former LSU baseball and football player -- is a renowned Major League scouting director who presently works for the Texas Rangers ... interests include duck hunting, writing and tennis ... majoring in communication studies at LSU ... born December 26, 1989. http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=1525002
I'm not to sure. My dad and Uncles always talk about him, though I have never met him. My dad called me up this past weekend at the game and said Beau was playing. I have always kept up with LSU baseball, but mostly from the news after. However, with family, it tends to spark a greater interest. I tend to think that Mel pushed real hard for Beau to go to LSU.
I watched Bob Didier play his HS FB & baseball at Glen Oaks. I grew up at the corner of Silverleaf and Glen Oaks, he was my idol. I went to his dad's summer baseball camps at GOHS as a kid in the '60's. Finally met Bob out here in '86 when he was Jackie Moore's 3rd base coach for the A's. Had a great conversation with him. Class act, nice guy, it was fun to reminisce with him. Supposedly Mel, when he was a scout for the Dodgers, told Kirk Gibson that he was sure that Dennis Eckersley would throw a two-strike back-door slider and to look for it if that situation came up. Gibson took his advice and hit one of the most dramatic home runs ever in the '88 WS. Great baseball family for sure. Glad to have one of 'em at LSU! PS Beau's great-grandfather Ray Didier was baseball coach @ LSU! from '57-'63. The beat goes on, indeed.
