in Gus Johnson voice: OH MY! The Alcorn St. Braves are a SWAC team out of Mississippi. They are in 1st place with a 7-2 conference record (14-13 overall) and lead the league individual statistics in strikeouts (Pomerlee-49) Home runs (Perdomo-6) and Hits (Gonzalez-43). Against common opponent USL, they lost 1-16 and 0-11. Perfect time to experiment with the line up. No TV. Pretty good weather, enjoy spring before it ends in a week or two. PITCHING MATCHUP LSU - Jr. RHP Ben Alsup (1-0, 9.00 ERA, 7.0 IP, 4 BB, 5 SO) ASU - TBA
I hope I'm wrong but starting Alsup is like starting J Lee in football. You are going to spot the other team some points.
Looks like the perfect time to start Alsup. If he can go 6 innings, that is gonna save pitching for the rest of this long week. Also, it should give the D a chance for a little practice/polish. I think it's a great move by CPM.
Alsup started the game on a good note getting 2 Ks in the first, struggled a bit in the second allowing 4 runs, but retired three straight after hitting the lead off guy in the third. we need to get a couple more innings from him.
koeneman who got the start at third triples to lead off the third! this guy could be the answer to a lot of offensive woes in the bottom of the lineup! grant dozar triples. back to back triples, no outs! 7-4! not sure what happened, but score is now 10-4.
bottom fifth, 10-5 LSU. mahtook with the third triple of the game! no one out. LSU got another run on two hits. 11-5. heading to 6th.
not bad. i think that if CPM would leave the kid in the lineup and give him the chance to "learn on the job" like he did with diddier, dishon and delatte that he would would turn out to be pretty damn good. being in the lineup one day, then riding the bench for a week isn't really conducive to hitting well, IMO. but what do i know? i never won a national title.
