I was wondering why Tyler Jones was suspended for the Wake Forest series this past weekend.... now we know: stealing a bag of chips and a drink!!

What a bone head move on his part!!

Stupid but a shame that he can't afford chips and a drink.

I don't believe that a student-athlete can't afford chips and a drink. IMO, just stupid...didn't know you could get arrested for that though. I'm betting he didn't know either.

    I agree.

What I really didn't like was the excuse of: he had no money. So I guess that entitles him to steal? Don't student athletes eat for free? I would bet everything I own that Coach PM or any of his team mates would have gave him $2 for a snack if he asked.

Not that I am saying the action is ok but partial scholarships probably mean he doesn't have a meal plan paid for by the athletic department. and technically, I would think coach can't give him the $2 to pay for it if you want to follow NCAA rules.

    Still a boneheaded mistake.

You raise a couple good points.

I know Tyler Jones is on scholarship, but uncertain if it's full or partial? Does anyone know how to find this out?

Also, does anyone know if student athletes on partial scholarships have any type of meal assistance provided to them?

considering the total number of baseball scholarships allowed by the ncaa is 11.7, i'm sure he only has a partial scholarship. a full athletic scholarship in baseball is rare.

I would think they at least have a "training table" during their season, but not sure.

what kind of chips were they? If they were funyons I don't know, I think I could forgive him, but if they were sour cream and onion potato chips, i don't think i can.
