The boards I looked at said Arky hit a home run in the 9th, this article makes it sound like ASU tied the game, then won June 13, 2010 By Tom Kessler Special to NCAA.com Arizona State Outlasts Arkansas In Extra Innings, 7-6 - NCAA.com ? The Official Website of NCAA Championships TEMPE, Ariz. - Of the 85 base hits that Pac-10 Player of the Year Zack MacPhee has collected this season, none have been bigger - or likely, shorter - than the Arizona State sophomore's game-tying single with two outs in the ninth inning Saturday night in the Sun Devils' NCAA Division I Super Regional opener against Arkansas. With the Sun Devils trailing 6-5 and down to their last strike, MacPhee hit a chopper no more than 40 feet in front of the plate down the third-base side. Arkansas pitcher Jordan Pratt charged in and fielded the ball, but MacPhee beat the throw to first base as his teammate Andrew Aplin scored the tying run from third. Three innings later at the sold-out Packard Stadium, the top-ranked Sun Devils scored the winning run on a walk-off single by freshman Deven Marrero to post a 7-6 victory and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
I was hoping the final CWS at Rosenblatt would be full of traditional powerhouse programs playing one final series before moving to the new park. With most of the top programs already on vacation it just isn't going to happen. Maybe after making the CWS so many times, FSU will finally win a title in their last chance at Rosenblatt. Georgia started it all for the SEC in '90 but nobody other than LSU has been able to bring home the title since. Maybe this is the year for a third SEC team to win the title. I'm not interested in Florida winning it all. I believe LSU and Michigan are the only two programs to win a title in football, baseball, and basketball. (I know the LSU basketball championship in '35 was based on polls prior to NCAA) I don't want any company. Of the six teams in so far (ASU, Florida, FSU, South Carolina, TCU, & UCLA) I guess I'll pull for South Carolina. UCLA will hopefully be eliminated quickly so they can go home to their high school ballpark. (What a joke the NCAA allowed them to host a regional. :dis
