I had an uneasy feeling about the team after we lost Von Rosenberg, but the wheels never fell off until now. I think they will surely bounce back. I hope its this year, but I have no doubt even if we continue downward this will be just a blip. CPM will get us back on top in no time. He has already done it once.
STILL the defending national champions and 6-time champs at that. If a recruit jumps ship after a rough patch, who needs him? LSU is LSU. This too shall pass.
this is baseball. can anyone name me a baseball team that has gone a full season without a rough patch? seriously, we lost a series to a TERRIBLE Tennessee team last year. We lost mid-week games to Nicholls and USL. It happens.
Do you fellers remember Skipball? Skip never worried much about losses and often experimented with lineups and pitchers, some of which didn't work out. LSU never really started on top and stayed there all season, we had dips and valleys. It's a long season. What is important is that Skip's teams always peaked at tournament time. I believe that Maineri understands this.
we havent lost any recruits because of any rough patch's. we lose recruits because they decide to go pro instead. it happens to every good program. the thing is to find the balance and not recruit kids that are obviously going pro. sure, you have to take chance, but you want to find the kids that can, but would rather play college ball. it happens in every good program that can attract those kinds of players. its just part of it, and something you have to plan for.
i agree. my only concern is that we are at the point in the season we should be on the upswing. i am hoping that this is just one of the valley's on the way to the peak. oh, and i lied. my other concern is not so much the loss, but the lack of emotion last night. ole miss, well, sh*t happens. but they never stopped playing. last night just was zombie ball. i hope that is out of their systems now.
A small losing streak, really isn’t anything to get all up in arms about. Can someone remind me, what was our regular season record last yr and the yr before? If I recall, should we finish with 12 -13 more wins, we will have a similar record. As I said before, sometimes getting your arses handed to you and getting totally embarrassed is exactly what you need to push yourself to the level of excellence that you are capable of. CPM has proven time and again that when this teams back is up against the wall, he gets them refocused and they come back stronger than they were before. Making their push thru the rest of the season and post season. Hell it even got us a National Championship last yr. If we all remember there was a period around mid season that he made some serious pitching lineup changes because we had gone thru a stretch of losing. I think we went on like some 21 game winning streak or something. This is a blip in the season, nothing to get all in a tizzy about. We aren’t going to start losing recruits over this skid, hell we won’t even lose recruits should we tank the rest of the season. I think we all need to remember that it is a long season and going thru a small skid is no big deal. Hell I would rather we do it now, and get refocused to finish the regular season and stay strong for the post season, rather than have this skid hit us during regional’s, super regional’s, or the CWS.
there are nights where you just ain't got it. physically or emotionally. no matter what, you just can't find high gear.
perhaps, but there were some consistencies on those teams that this team doesn't have. i don't doubt that they can go on a tear, but i just don't think we have the consistency in the pitching staff to go very far. at this point in the season, you should know what to expect from a pitcher. but we don't. we have some very good pitchers on the roster, but a lot of them are young. the guys that mainieri brought in from the juco ranks (bourgeois, mormann) are disappointments, IMO. those are the guys you bring in to replace starters with. these aren't supplemental players, they're replacements, and they're not pitching like it. for the record, i'm not worried about this team. at the beginning of the season, you have to expect omaha as a goal being a serious LSU fan. throughout the season you learn more about the team and the team's chances. i don't think this is an omaha team right now. it's barely a super regional team. they can get better, but i'm not expecting it. anything past a regional will be lagniappe for me. again, not that i doubt the team, but looking around the country, there are teams light years ahead of LSU (and yes, i know that light years measure distance.)
I totally agree, and would add that there are periods when you stand at the plate and the ball looks the size of a graprefruit moving like a turtle and then there are times it looks the size of a pea moving at the speed of light. Sometimes ya got it sometimes ya don't.
