they should have never been Preseason #1 in the first place. The champ should have that taken from them always in any sport, imo.

I wouldn't go that far, the #1 ranking should go to the team that looks like it will be the best this year. Many times the returning champions have lost a lot and shouldn't be ranked in the top 10.

then by week 2 of the season, they will lose 3-4 games and will be ranked where they need to be.

Exactly. Kind of like last year. Great weekend starting pitching, very strong closer. But question marks mid-week and in the rotation. Bourgeois was an awesome add, it appears.

Which is why I wish major college sports would do away with preseason rankings altogether, and wait 2-3 weeks into the season to issue the first rankings. For football maybe even longer. Traditionally, it's just been such a poor predictor of future performance.

if there is a real obvious drop off for the defending champs, they shouldnt automatically be pre-season #1. but when there isnt, and given we were ranked preseason #2, the short horns should not have been #1.

but, it is what it is. and you take care of it where it matters and win the games. do that and it straightens itself out. and im not that worried about it in baseball where there are a lot more games and time to straighten itself out. football is the bigger concern for pre-season rankings, imo.

I can agree with this. But I still don't fully mind if the champ is No. 1 no matter what to start the next year.

In football, if they truly are overrated and they suck, they will lose and it won't matter.

The other sports, who is where in the preseason means jack-o. But either way, as said above, LSU is looking sharp and that's all that matters, even if we're ranked No. 100 right now. :) It will work itself out.

finally made a game at the New Box.

1st, Matty Ott seems like one classy dude.
Signed an autograph for my kids before the game, and was also nice enough to pose for a pic with them. Seemed really genuine and not forced at all.

2nd, Watkins is thicker than I expected. Dude ain't real tall, but he is square.

Dean's homer was a gift from the baseball gods. My seats were down the right field line, and that ball cleared the wall by a little less than a frog hair. Didn't think it was gonna make it. It was against the wind, so on a calm day, prolly wouldn't have been as close.

Gibbs' homer was a no doubter off the bat, even though it went to the deepest part of the yard.

My kids are officially huge fans of Mikie Mahtook. No particular reason other than they were close enough to yell to him and him notice.
