i kept up hope, but it's getting very urgent. we're on the verge of not making the SEC tourney for christ's sake. perhaps we still get a regional even if we fail to make the tourney, but they're not being generous to teams based on tradition and facilities anymore. i don't know, maybe the SEC is just, like, STUPID-GOOD this season? maybe if we get a game from a non-conference team who was lucky to get into a regional, perhaps sparks will fly and our boys will remember how to play baseball. i'll never, ever, ever give up hope after that 2008 season, but when we FINALLY get offense, we can't PITCH. when we DO pitch, we can't HIT. can they get evertyhing on the same friggin page!? o:
I believe the SEC is good but since they usually are, I don't think it's the reason for our fall. Whether it's a lack of chemistry, inexperience, or a lack of leadership due to losing many key members of last year's team, this team just can't seem to put it all together. I know many here are quick to defend the pitching (and granted we've had our share of problems on batting, running, and fielding) but I just don't think we have the staff this year to get it done. Maybe it's part due to injury...maybe it's between the ears...maybe we lost out by losing top talent to MLB...but I just don't have much faith in our pitching. I'm still holding out hope we make the SEC tournament and find a little LSU magic but this past "first to worst"-type streak has been brutal.
well, we have a lot of arms. capable arms too. but for whatever reason it just hasn't come together. this may sound really wild, but as good as the players from LA are, we need to start maybe trying to recruit some pitchers from out west. you can compete, and win, with LA talent, but we really need to try and find the diamond-in-the-rough guys like stephen strasburg, who no one wanted out of high school because he was fat and lazy. but he threw 98+ m.p.h. then there are the guys like jared weaver, drew pomeranz, luke hochevar, david aardsma -- guys that just don't belong at the college level. we need to get some guys that are just overpowering. i thought anthony ranaudo would be one of those types of guys -- and he still can be. the MLB makes it tough to recruit, but what i am saying is that if other schools can get guys like that, LSU damn well ought to be. i think perhaps LSU's gorilla ball days hurt more than people think. LSU just doesn't have an image as a "pitchers school" like rice or vandy might have. LSU might be a hitter's dream, but perhaps pitchers just don't view LSU as the right place. however with guys like bradford, coleman, ranaudo, ott, coach mainieri is changing that. hopefully we will continue to try and find pitchers that can be dominating, we need it.
well... today isn't a lack of hitting or pitching, so far. it's base running mistakes again. let's see how many different ways we can find to lose a game, at least that could be interesting. or, we could watch paint dry.
As soon as I tuned into the game I saw a throw out at home plate. I was thrilled. Followed by Landry stopping at 2nd because he was "trotting" while the right fielder bobbled the ball....didnt matter anyway....we had the typical candy hopper out with a runner in scoring position. It's like the friggin twighlight zone. AND HERE COMES THE MIDDLE INNING FALLOUT!!!!!!!!!!! WHEN DOES IT STOP???!!!! :angryfire:angryfireo::angryfire:cuss::cuss::cuss:o::angryfire:angryfire
twooooo run homer. 2-1 UK.. how long until football? i am about to throw in the towel, the players sure have.
or dean trying to turn a hard-hit single into a double and getting thrown out. landry's double would have plated dean... LSU should have three runs.
