2011 (last time Morganza opened) there was no measurable drop in river height. river lowered the way it always does. as amount of water coming from rest of country decreased, river levels gradually went down. that’s gauges, not my eyes, telling me that. but here is a pic of it open with water height on each side roughly equal.
From Google: There are 7.48 gallons in cubic foot and 748 gallons in one hundred (100) cubic feet (hcf). In order to express large volumes of water use, this water use is expressed in acre feet numbers. One acre foot equals 43,560 cubic feet or 435.6 hundred cubic feet and is equivalent to 325,851 gallons. Can someone who is a math whiz unlike myself explain how many acre feet a million gallons cubic feet of water per second would be? Thanks
don’t know acre feet, but put it like this. an olympic size swimming pool is about 87,000 cubic feet. on average, one of those dumps over Niagara Falls every second. 11.5 of them every second would be 1 million cubic feet. 17 per second is 1.5 million.
Thanks. So roughly 17 swimming pools over Niagara Falls per second? If that's correct, that's less than I visualized. Still a shitload of water.
