Here's a link to a bleacher report about Greg McElroy and his performance at the Manning QB camp in Thibodaux. Why Greg McElroy Will Be a Big Surprise for Alabama's Opponents | Bleacher Report We'll have to wait and see if he struggles or not, but throwing to Julio Jones helps a lot. He may be better than we think. They have to play us and Florida (I believe). The other WR isn't bad (Maze) but they really wanted Randle bad didn't they. Tee it up !!!!
I wouldn't lose any sleep. The article was written by one of the mods at RollRide.com. The DB's in the SEC are going to be an eye opening experience to a green quarterback compared to the ones at quarterback camp. Bama has 9 returning starters on defense and will be strong as hell. But only 4 return on offense and they have a lot of question marks about their backfield and offensive line. It will be tough to score on Bama this year, but Bama still has to score some points to win games and the verdict is still out.
He'll struggle because Jarrett Lee struggled. Cant believe the writer of that article doesnt see that.
Not necessarily. While the comparisons to Lee may be fair, they aren't totally accurate. He isn't a freshman. Matt Flynn is the more favorable comp. I'm not saying he's going to come in and light the world on fire, but I think it's wishful thinking to believe that he'll be throwing picks left and right just because he was on the pine behind a senior last year.
I'm sensing just a little bit of sarcasm in his post.... That said, I don't completely rule out seniors who have paid their dues. I'll also gladly take Jordan Jefferson.
I think it very strange that both Auburn and bama have QBs on the roster who at one time were both committed to TTU. And there is a chance both will start. (Chris' arm is beginning to come back)
no sarcasm. I think comparing a Junior to Freshman just because neither has played meaningful downs in the SEC before isn't really a valid comparison. We've all witnessed a QB (Flynn) come in, after sitting and learning on the bench for a few years, and do a good job. Like I said, he may well end up struggling, but it's not a foregone conclusion.
I would hardly compare a Manning camp preparedness for facing the SEC. No doubt he has an excellent defense to work out the bugs over, but to believe that a great performance in a camp solidifies his abilities against the SEC is seeing things in gump vision. He may play well but the article is all cool-aid. The biggest thing helping this kid is Bama's fairly cake schedule. With that, all he has to do is not lose a game for them.
