The one question Penn didn't have an answer for, and I'll admit I sort of penned him in a corner when I asked, is how do you define "have a bearing on the play."

I asked him how much different is it seeing SEC defensive lines versus the non-conference games you called? He said it was world's apart. The speed alone is the defining difference.

When I followed that with "how do you know holding on the opposite side of the play isn't eliminating back side pursuet" he had no answer.

We talk about PI calls being subjective. Holding trumps.

I don't know of the incident you're referring to, but some pushing and shoving is to be expected along with an occasional cheap shot. Targeting to injure is a whole different situation. Poking eyes, biting, shots to the knees and the like should be treated with zero tolerance.

So is throwing punches and that's not a theory, it's an automatic ejection.

For example: South Carolina defensive tackle, Kelcy Quarles, was suspended against Florida,
for throwing a punch against an LSU player.

That's true about throwing a punch but Dials was a flagrant helmet to helmet on a DEFENSELESS player not even involved in the play.

Look at this play and tell me that you honestly believe that the Ole Miss player SHOULD have been suspended the following week for this hit (which he was) and Dial should not...

He was suspended, but didn't need the SEC to hand that down. May be why the penalty numbers are so low on Bama?

And without apology, I would add that choosing to suspend a player for a regular season game should not be thought of or compared to a suspension of a national companionship game. Suspend the player for the first game the following season. Dial is not a senior. Otherwise, the penalty is too high.

Mr. "Process" Nick Saban benched two LSU players for the 2003 BCSNCG. It's been done before.

Bama players feel this hit does not warrant a suspension. I would agree. That's as much of the process I have control of.

But then again, is there ANY violent act he could perform that is considered flagrant enough that ANY Alabama player would feel compelling enough to kick his fat ass out of the NC game?
