Alabama Star Charged After Bar Incident AP Posted: 2008-02-23 21:34:48 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Feb. 23) - Alabama safety Rashad Johnson was charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly knocking a security guard down at an off-campus bar early Saturday morning, Tuscaloosa police said. Johnson was arrested at 2:55 a.m. at the Legacy bar on the strip near Alabama's campus, police spokesman Robert Fourt said in a statement Saturday. The 22-year-old Johnson was released on $500 bond shortly after being booked on the misdemeanor charge. Officers had spotted a disturbance outside the bar, which was closing, Fourt said. Legacy security personnel were escorting someone from the bar when Johnson allegedly attempted to intervene and pushed one of the security officers, who fell out the door and onto the ground. Johnson, a first-team All-Southeastern Conference pick, was arrested after a brief struggle, Fourt said. Additional officers from city and university police responded after a large crowd gathered, but no one else was arrested A Tuscaloosa officer received a minor abrasion to his knee during the arrest, but did not require medical attention. Johnson, a former walk-on, led the Crimson Tide with 94 tackles and six interceptions as a junior. He finished in a three-way tie for the SEC lead in interceptions. He was selected a captain by his teammates after the season. It was the second arrest involving a Tide player in the past week. Defensive lineman Jeremy Elder was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery last Sunday night.
me: "I thought you said that Coach Saban was going to cure these discipline problems you said were Shula's fault .... " my Bama friend: "Saban's doing a great job with discipline, but these troublemakers are Shula's recruits" me: "Bwaaahaahaaahaaaaa ! "
No coach can do much to prevent an incident from occuring except by insuring there are consequences. It will be interesting to see what Saban does. I don't recall him ever having problems installing discipline in a team.
What he really does good is keeping a tight lid on discipline problems. As long as they don't get arrested. He's no more disciplined inclined than most.
That would make the 8th or 9th arrest in Saban's 13 month tenure. He better do something quick because his discipline is not working at Bama like it did at LSU. Maybe Saban is seting these players up to make room for all the recruits they took in this recruiting class.
Or maybe he took so many 'cause he knew he had a summer full of press releases ahead of him. One way to fix discipline is to let them Darwin themselves right off the team and recruit quality youngsters and let them watch the bloodbath...
Yep. At least from what we know of both instances. I still think there's a lot we don't know in both cases.
that's what is such a shame. here he is, the guy who is supposed to be leading and setting the example and he couldn't control himself enough to not do this. regardless of what is going on in any situation, a guy voted Captain should have the fortitude to rise above whatever circumstances have occurred and not act irresponsibly.
