Yes, you are correct Bhelm. I am always fair in my assessments. You may not agree with them, but I apply logic into everything I come up with. JPW is not a championship winning QB. This team had 9 points offensively vs MSU midway through the 4th quarter. Egad! Not my fault that the special teams coach, whom I assume will be fired at some point, allowed Arenas to burn them twice. You'll just have to see when you face Florida. Gotta get past Auburn first, for it to even matter.
The only thing Bama can hang their hat on is the Ohio State team of 02 that looked a lot like Bama does. Very good defense, good running game and a game manager at QB. Won several close games and didn't look that impressive for much of the year. They stunned the world and beat Miami. Stranger things have happened. The only problem is you have to win 2 NCs in order to just win 1 (i.e., you must beat Florida first).
Certainly Florida is better than they are. Texas and Penn State could be two more but that is debatable.
We haven't looked dominant on a consistent basis. But we have dominated teams offensively. But my point is how many teams in the history of the rankings have occupied the number one spot, whether it be during the regular season or post season? I don't know the number but a helluva lot I would say. I don't think we're in the category of "worst ever". We're a defensive oriented team. But in today's college football you're graded off of how potent your offense is and not your defense. Which to me is hypocritical because "defense wins championships" is a common staple you hear when talking to most people that keep up with college football or football in general. LSU was ranked number one at some point in the season last year then was ranked number one after the NCG with two losses. Yet we're undefeated in the SEC, in a time where most thought going undefeated in the SEC was a thing of the past and we're two games from doing it. But we're in the running for "the worst #1 team ever"? Right. How about the Ohio St. team of 2007 that was nothing short of an embarrassment and everybody and their mother knew going into the game they had no business being there?
I don't even think Bama is the number team in the nation. But until you've objectively analyzed every team that has ever occupied that spot I don't think you're being "fair" to say Bama is the worst #1 team ever. You haven't done that kind of research. That "always fair assessment" was more less shot from the hip and from the short term memory rather from true objectivity. I agree they are about #6.
I will say this. Bama can write their history in 3 weeks. If they win that game, no one will beat them in the NC.
it does not matter because they will play fl and they will get exposed just watch...they will not be able to slow them down enough...fl has too many weapons and bama's qb is not clutch he never has been...
