People can still debate it, sure. But officially whoever wins the conference is the best. Last year was weird. The best team was Bama or LSU without a doubt, but which one? LSU beat Bama when it counted and then it went quite the other way later that year... maybe it's a tie? But still, LSU beat Bama in the regular season and then beat Georgia in the SECCG so they really should be recognized as the best SEC team in 2011. But still, is that not why they play the SEC Championship Game? To determine the best team?
Captain Tide, alot of Tiger fans were questioning our schedule this season. We don't like playing weak ass schedules, at least I don't. I don't feel it does us any favors. We play Towson and don't man handle them and we drop in the polls. It's a lose lose situation unless you win 50-3. What Tiger fans other fans in the SEC are scratching their heads about is how Bama gets away with playing inferior East opponents 2 seasons in a row. No Florida, no South Carolina, no Georgia, 2 seasons in a row.
No. It is played to award one team as the champion. Sometimes it serves to separate the best two teams from each other. Don't try to spin it any other way.
We played Florida in our 2010 and 2011 season. We finished a 2 year series with SC in 2009 and 2010. Now, the head-scratcher would be how Georgia has been able to avoid the bullies of the west, completely, the last two seasons. My theory is that B'ham. has been quietly infiltrated by those dastardly bulldogs from the east.
The way I look at, LSU and Alabama split the season series, 1-1. Let's make it a best of three from now on.
Perhaps the answer is to do away with the permanent opponent from the opposite division, and just rotate them. Lucky for Alabama that Tennessee has sucked for a while now, yet Florida is a perennial contender.
I hear you. It sucks to drop in the polls even with a W. Didn't we also drop when we barely beat Auburn this year? Did Alabama drop in the polls in 2009 when they barely beat Tennessee, also by the same 12-10 score, and lucky to escape with a blocked FG?
Perhaps, but that seems more to do with the cosmic forces than conspiratorial. Besides, most of orange nation are certain their next coach will be Mr. Gruden and somehow he will miraculously be morphed into the world's greatest college coach. Something he never came close to achieving in the NFL.
I'm sure more people would like to respond but for too long they've said, "There are no easy schedules, it's the SEC." End of the day, they beat us. That's all "we" could control, really. Tennessee is down but I wouldn't list them as a slouch. They have 4 recognized National Championships and 19 SEC titles. On the other hand, a one time conference champ/never a bride, South Carolina is up but they'll soon disapear back into the shadows of the SEC. Guess what I'm saying it that it'll take care of itself, sorta.
