That gives them 28. How many more can they take? Hopefully this has the impact I am hoping for and TJ Bryant becomes a Tiger.
4 is the number I'm getting. 2 of those back count towards '07. (26) 1 for sure, possibly two come in on a Bryant scholarship. (24) 2 have agreed to pay their own way for the fall with two more stating they can if it's needed. (22 to 20) Oh, we got a commitment this week that isn't public as of yet. It won't be until NSD. LB'er.
Bama has a Paul Bear Bryant scholarship that allows you to take 2 more players than every other college in America every year? I am not getting that. You guys have recruited a lot of nice players, who happen to have rich parents. Cool.
It works just like an invited walk-on. It's a scholarship set up for kids of guys who played under Bryant. They count against the 85 when they see the field, in this case, in their 3rd year. As to the "rich parents" comment you guys have a few that intend to grey-shirt as well.
So essentially, while other schools have to devote scholarships to players they are developing, Bama gets scholarships they can devote to such kids (that played under Bryant) until they see the field. So, please explain to me how this is not unfair, or am I misunderstanding? I think I must be missing something. If Bama is allowed to do this kind of thing and other schools are not this seems grossly unfair.
Must not be much of an advantage. You've won five in a row against us and probably six after 08. I wouldn't get too worked up about it. :yelwink2:
I'm not speaking as an LSU fan/alum (which I proudly am!). This is unfair to every other BCS team. Like Auburn for example... oooh sorry. Sore spot? My bad. Okay, ummm... Mississippi State -- ouch! My bad, did it again. Okay how about LA-Monroe... crap!!! You get my point though.
Again, it's just like an invited walk-on. It counts against the 85 so there is no advantage. The only difference is the funds don't come out of the Ath. Dept's monies. There are one or two every year. Neighbors may get one this year, Ogilvie's son is getting one. You have a similar situation set up with your baseball program where a state scholarship is used to support the 1/2 scholly's normally awarded to baseball players. Georgia has something close to that as well...google the Hope scholarship. Black Jack, your assertion if off base here.
