I agree with all of that. But LSU wasn't playing with it's most talented team ever in 2003, and we won it all. 2007 happened after a huge NFL draft loss year - won it all again. Bama can compete next year. Didn't say they would be dominant or even expected to win. But I'm not looking past them, nor will I be shocked if they put a 3 loss season or better together.
But LSU had depth in both those years. Depth is an underrated factor in a rough league like the SEC. We had to start a freshman running back in 2003 because of injuries. In 2007 We lost a starting quarterback for the SECCG and the backup won it and the MVP, too. We had a DL that could cover all season for an All-American DT playing on one leg. Bama has major talent on defense, fine skill players, and two years in Nick's Way of doing things. What they don't have yet is depth . . . but it is coming.
