Yes and finished giving up 449 yds and 31 points to an average notre dame. Chief was a good DC in decline. Both he and LSU needed a change to improve. DL recruiting and development SUCKED!!!! Pass rush was non existent and it has been years since LSU developed a disruptive force in the middle. Yaw Yaw was a home run hire. DL recruiting and play WILL improve. Even if Steele is an average DC, if he recruits better than Chief, which won't be hard, the LSU defense will be better.
So since you are that critical of Cheif, do you feel the same way about CLM? CLM is an offensive coach and the offense is very stale so why not change that problem. You can't feel that strong about one and not the other
My criticism of CLM is well documented here and is much more extensive than my criticism of Chief. However CLMs shortcomings aren't an excuse for Chiefs. They also don't mean that the changes on the defensive staff mean a further decline in defensive play.
It is true, out side of terrible QB play, the front 7 has been underwhelming under Chavis. The fact that LB's struggled so much from an LB GUY is what was more troubling. On the other side, our O'lines have been generally pretty good; Les being an O'line guy.....
